- Hosted by Genetics Society
To kick off the new academic year, UCL Genetics Society is excited to welcome you to our first academic talk of the term! π
Gene therapy is rapidly changing the way we think about treating genetic and neurological disorders. But what if, instead of delivering a treatment that is permanently active, we could design therapies that respond only when and where they are needed?
For this event, we are delighted to welcome Professor Gabriele Lignani from the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, who will introduce his research on reprogramming brain circuits and developing on-demand gene therapies for neurological disorders π§ . He will explore how advances in genetics and neuroscience are opening up new possibilities for more precise and responsive treatments, and what these approaches could mean for the future of neurological disease therapy.
This event will involve a talk on the research, followed by a Q&A session, giving you the opportunity to ask questions about the research, gene therapy, neuroscience, and life in academia π¬.
After the talk, we will also be having an informal social with snacks and drinks πͺπ₯€, so stick around to meet other students interested in genetics and get to know the Genetics Society!
What you can get from the event
* 𧬠An introduction to emerging approaches in gene therapy
* π§ Insights into how neural circuits can be targeted and reprogrammed
* π¬ A glimpse into current research at the intersection of genetics and neuroscience
* π¬ The opportunity to ask questions directly to a researcher in the field
* π A chance to meet other students interested in genetics and start the new term with us
This event is designed to be beginner-friendly and accessible, so no prior knowledge of gene therapy or neuroscience is required. Whether you study genetics, neuroscience, biomedical sciences, biology, medicine, or are simply curious about how genetic technologies could shape the future of medicine, you are very welcome to come along!
Come join us for some exciting science, good conversation, and a chance to meet the Genetics Society at the start of the year! π§¬β¨
