More than £500k of extra funding to support students in financial need
The Cost of Living crisis will affect everyone, especially students who are already financially stretched. Over the summer we’ve been working to establish new and expanded support for students who may be facing financial hardship over the coming year.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Metropolitan Police found that Asian hate crime has risen three-fold. However, many incidents stay unreported due to feelings of hopelessness, the normalisation of hate, a distrust of law enforcement, and inaccessibility of reporting.

Gender Expression Fund
Many people experience feelings of stress and anxiety at the disconnect they feel between their gender identity and appearance. We have created the Gender Expression Fund to provide financial assistance for students to purchase items that will make them more comfortable with their gender presentation and, we hope, improve their wellbeing.
Sarah Douglas Hardship Fund
From 1 September 2026, all hardship fund applications will be assessed for the 2026/27 academic year.If your studies took place in 2025/26 and have now ended (or will end shortly), you may no longer be eligible for our grants.
Financial Support
Our financial support is designed to be additional to UCL’s core hardship support. We aim to support students who, for whatever reason, cannot access UCL support but are in financial need - preventing them from continuing or completing their studies, or from taking part in student activities.

Remembering Queen Elizabeth II
Students’ Union UCL are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.  We extend our very deepest sympathies and condolences to the Royal family at this time.
