We’ve just opened our very first convenience store at the iconic UCL East campus.
The Pool Street Shop, which is the latest addition to our range of student-friendly spaces, has been designed with you in mind. We know just how important it is that everyone living and studying nearby has a local convenience store they can pop into for their essentials, and we’re now the closest and most convenient shop around.
The Pool Street Shop works as a social enterprise, meaning that every penny of profit goes straight back into growing the student community and helping to fund all the exciting activities that make student-life at UCL what it is. We’re also proud to pay the London Living Wage, creating student jobs on campus.
The Pool Street Shop is also the first new Students’ Union space we’ve opened since the upgraded Institute Bar launched in January 2019. It represents a significant investment from UCL in helping us expand our operation, reach more students, and provide more opportunities for us to generate additional funding for our student activities.
Where can you find us?
Slap bang in the middle of campus, on the ground floor of One Pool Street, the new teaching and accommodation building at UCL East. Just walk out the main doors and turn left. We really love the fact that we’re in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic park – with iconic views from our shop windows of the ArcelorMittal Orbit, the London Stadium, and the London Aquatics Centre.
What are we selling?
We’ve got all the essentials you need to get by - we’re talking sandwiches and wraps, snacks, frozen goods, household items, beer and wine. The shop has also been designed with your busy student schedules in mind. You’ll find a great range of £3.50 meal deal options for a quick lunch or snack and our self-service tills mean speed and convenience are guaranteed. Think Tesco Express or Sainsbury’s Local, but with way more benefits.
Sustainability and affordability are also top priorities for us, and you, so we’ve got an amazing zero waste section – more info below.
Meal Deal
The best meal deal in e20... Tesco might have raised their prices to £3.90, but we’re sticking firm at £3.50. Get yourself a smoothie, a salad, and bag of crisps. Or pick up a fully loaded sandwich, some coconut water and a bag of kettle chips. This meal deal is your new lunchtime ritual.

The Pool Street Shop is open now from 08:00 – 18:00 Monday to Friday.

We’re most excited to introduce a zero-waste food station at the Pool Street Shop as part of our mission to be a single-use plastic-free campus by 2024. Bring your own containers from home to fill at our station with pasta, rice, grains, and treats to avoid unnecessary packaging and unnecessary climate anxiety. It’s really simple – and you can get just the amount of food you need, so less goes to waste.
We put every penny of profit back into your community
This is what makes us different to the high street chains, we work as a social enterprise with every penny of profit going straight back into running all the exciting activities that bring our community together. We're also be open to the general public which will give us a little boost in the amount we’re able to put towards making student life even better.
