What is this funding?
The LGBTQ+ Equality Implementation Group has allocated funding to proposals for LGBTQ+ inclusion activities and local institutional research that will support UCL to understand and support the concerns and priorities of the LQBTQ+ community.
Students are eligible to apply and while applicants do not need to identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, any proposal must have a clear aim that aligns with and contributes to the visions outlined by the Group's Terms of Reference.
What's the background here?
This group, known as LEIG, operates as a task and finish group until May 2023. The purpose of the group is to identify and develop a set of actions and an implementation plan tyhat will tackle inequality, marginalisation, and discrimination experiences by LQBTQ+ staff and students at UCL Particular attention will be given to trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming members of our community.
LEIG will complement the work of the LGBTQ+ Equality Steering Group.
Why are you telling me this?
At the Community Research Initiative, inclusive research practice is at the centre of what we do, as is ensuring student research creates meaningful impact for marginalised communities or key social issues.
We support student research to be co-designed with non-academic organisations because we think this will produce the best new knowledge, with broader perspectives and experiences embedded.
Please consider this fund to support dissertation work if it fits the remit of LEIG and the LGBTQ+ Equality Steering Group. What could funds be used for? What about paying for the time of a LBBTQ+ charity to collaborate with you to ensure knowledge exchange is at the centre of your dissertation? Or perhaps paying for people's time who you interviews as part of your research - taking part in research can create additional burden on people from marginalised communities and paying people for their time would off-set this and is ethical research practice.
