Demetri Alvanis
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
Hi all! I’m Demetri, current President of UCL Calisthenics Club and a passionate Calisthenics athlete. I’ve been doing Calisthenics for 6 years, and since then have competed internationally and coached. Some highlights of my competitive journey include winning my first international title this year and coming 2nd at the 2020 national championships.
Aside from competing, my sporting career has been orientated around pioneering Calisthenics in the UK, primarily through social media with videos reaching up to 70 million people. Along the way, I’ve witnessed the immense growth of the sport as well as countless individuals becoming inspired to love exercise.
Becoming Sports rep would allow me to turn my sporting aspirations into a reality and use my experience in creating a sport’s image to shed light on the areas that need more support and exposure.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
Whilst the elevation of sport at UCL is a primary aim of mine, increasing the accessibility and enjoyment of exercise is just as important - if there’s one thing I’ve learned through my experience doing and coaching calisthenics, it’s that sport is for EVERYONE. University can be one of the last opportunities to try a new sport - to maximise this opportunity, I also aim to increase the exposure and projection of sports that are less established. Sport comes in many forms, some of which you may never have heard of before let alone tried! (You’ve probably never even heard of Calisthenics before reading this!)

My experience being part of a pioneering process in sport and being in positions of leadership has allowed me to view the world of sport from many angles - the individual’s experience and enjoyment, the growth of a sport, and the external support needed for progress. I’m determined to adopt this holistic approach and skyrocket UCL’s sporting endeavours. I have witnessed first-hand the product of successful change, where individuals have thrived, enjoyed exercise, and inspired others. I plan to replicate this across many sports at UCL by increasing their accessibility and providing all the necessary support to elevate together.

Kevin Fang
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
Over the past 2 years I have been heavily involved with UCL Tennis, last year as Head of Development and this year as President.
Our development team were in charge of running the social tennis division, and we helped to facilitate the surge in interest for tennis and the vast growth the division experienced. We helped to create multiple sub-divisions, including post-grad sessions, advanced intermediate and beginner-based sessions.
Added on to my TeamUCL experience, I have also been a Tennis coach for over 6 years. I believe I have the skills needed to help the team promote Sports at UCL.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
As sports rep, my main aim is to increase participation of sports at UCL. Having already seen the increase in the uptake of tennis and sports in general, I truly believe sports can still progress even further than it already has at UCL. I hope we can achieve this by ways of creating engaging programs that reaches out to new non-sports audiences and increase the opportunities available for current sports players.

I think the experience from being heavily involved in a sports society and in a sport in general provides me with transferable skills that can be incredibly useful as a sports rep. More importantly, I will be dedicated to the role and will try to ensure that throughout my time as a sports rep that sports is promoted more and is opened up to a wider audience through fun and active programs.

Diane Le Rouic
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
I am the current Treasurer of the Cheerleading Club, a position I undertook after a year spent on the committee as Merch & Sponsorship Secretary. My involvement was rewarded by a Commendation at the Sports Awards in June 2022.
As Treasurer this year, I worked hard to ensure that Cheerleading becomes more financially accessible. I am also involved in planning numerous talks about serious topics in university sports, such as body image or gender stereotypes.
Aside from my involvement in clubs, I know TeamUCL from the inside out, thanks to my current role as a Project Active Assistant.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
If elected, I plan to help grow TeamUCL to be a more inclusive place and safe space and to ensure all clubs are treated equally, whether they are BUCS or non-BUCS.
I know of some of the problems of running such a large community and intend to help solve them as much as my position will allow. This includes but is not limited to helping set up and run the large TeamUCL campaigns and events such as Pride in TeamUCL and Varsity.
Finally, I will have an open ear and raise any issue toughening the accessibility of sports at UCL.

I have been involved in all of the large-scale TeamUCL events last year and am keen on helping continue their success and reimplement big Mandy Walker Games in 2023.
Being on the core committee of one of the largest non-BUCS clubs at UCL and working for Project Active taught me a lot about how UCL sports are run and some of the problems that are still standing. I genuinely care about fixing these to ensure that the sports we practice actually help us destress.
I will do everything possible to improve inclusivity at TeamUCL and equity between sports clubs.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
Hi everyone! I was a Sports Rep last year and I would like to expand on what we achieved and bring forward my knowledge and experience. Here's my additional experience with sport at UCL:
- TeamUCL Sports Assistant for two years and in that time I have overseen the TeamUCL Leagues.
- Project Active Assistant for one year. Organised and carried out all Welcome events for Project Active for 2021. Helped create the Postgraduate Summer initiative.
- Current coach and player for UCL Dodgeball. Previously held other committee roles between dodgeball and cheer: Social sec, Volunteering sec, Captain.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
I would primarily like to focus on sport provision/opportunities for postgraduate students as being a postgrad myself I have witnessed the importance of keeping active and getting involved with sport whilst dealing with the stresses of the degree. Although provision has significantly increased in recent years, I would like to focus on:
- Increasing the awareness of and developing the Postgraduate Summer programme in collaboration with Project Active.
- More postgrad only taster sessions/events with sports clubs.
- Promote having a postgrad committee position within clubs.
Separate to this, I would like to make sure that any home fixtures are well publicised to encourage spectators, support our teams and grow the UCL sports community.

I am dedicated to making sport provision at UCL the best it can be and to make sure that all students have as good an experience as I have being involved in TeamUCL and its sports clubs. I think it was really key last year to have someone who has knowledge of both sides of TeamUCL: working as a sports assistant and being a student in a sports club. This means I will be perfectly placed to deliver my policies as well as ensuring your voices are heard.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
Hi I'm Alice and I'd love to be your sports rep this year! As one of UCL Netball's senior committee members, I will bring an experienced voice to the sports rep role. Currently I am Welfare Officer, which means I know the importance of listening to the concerns of students within our sports community and making changes.
Having been on committee for two years, I have built strong relationships with not only those within the netball club but also those outside and so I have a good idea of what it is students want in order to make a positive difference to their university sporting experience.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
In this role, I want to ensure that voices from across as many different TeamUCL sports clubs as possible are heard and make sure that communication between students and TeamUCL is as easy as possible.
I am someone that cares greatly about diversity and inclusivity and want to ensure that TeamUCL is a welcoming space for everyone. Hence, at the forefront of my ideas will be a drive to continue the hard work of the TeamUCL against hate campaign. I especially want to continue to encourage participation of underrepresented groups at UCL to sport through more taster sessions.

In summary, I am a friendly face, reliable, and willing to go above and beyond in order to better the experience for everyone that is involved with sports at UCL. I am happy to speak up on issues that affect anyone within our community and particularly want to push for more awareness surrounding the benefits of sport for mental health, hopefully organising events to support this.
