Alright! I am applying for the role of social media officer as I find that I have the key attributes needed to be a SMO. I am organised in terms of being able to handle lots of different tasks at once, which I have shown through my past experience as a tutor and a sports ambassador. By being organised, I can be as efficient as possible, making it easier for tasks to be handled and as a result having a positive consequence to the team members around me. SMO would be perfect for me because I like to think of myself as a creative person, so creating content and sharing them is something that I have wanted to convey and what better way to do that than the team that I very much love :). I have my experience in editing videos and photos, handling multiple accounts and information as well as having great communication. All together, I think I would be a great addition to the role. I also think that by being open to team members, I can easily take in critiques and suggestions from my team, bringing closer the relationship between the role and the rest of the society.

Valentina Hussein

Hiya, Val here!

UCL TKD holds a special place in my heart, and after all the sweat and tears I’ve put in this year, I’m not ready to vanish just yet! I originally wanted to be Social Media Sec, but 2024 had other plans, and I stepped up as President. Now, I’m excited to return to my original goal and take on the Social Media role.

Having worked closely with social media this year and in previous clubs, I know the dedication and attention it needs. I’ve posted a few things here and there—stories, cheeky training reels—and as a non-committee last year. I love working with Canva and have used it extensively to create content. I enjoy filming, capturing photos, editing them, and presenting everything in an aesthetically pleasing way. So I’m excited to continue that creative energy for our social media.

Now for the upcoming year, some things I’d love to work on: a comp vlog, more photo coverage, some funny (but seriously cool) merch.

With more time on my hands next year, I’m confident I can elevate our social media presence. Let’s be honest—you’ve seen me handle the role of President, and (hopefully) I’ve done more than just a solid job, so you can trust me to take this on! If you’re looking for cringe-worthy videos and trending content, I’m your go-to person. Plus, I already have access to UCL TKD’s Instagram, so the transition will be smooth. The real difference? I’ll finally be able to dedicate all my time and energy to social media, not just a small portion of it.

Natalie Tan

Hi, I’m Natalie, a 2nd year Anthropology student, and I’m running to be your social media officer!

Having joined UCL Taekwondo as a complete beginner, I understand how it may be intimidating to join a sports club without prior experience, and as social media officer, I aim to use Instagram to overcome this perceived barrier to entry. I hope to foster a welcoming online presence that encapsulates our team’s vibrant and inclusive environment to invite other beginners or prospective newcomers to our team. I also aim to strengthen our team identity through curating a cohesive visual aesthetic and producing more content showcasing the more candid side of UCL Taekwondo, such as training reels, competition vlogs, and other fun social media trends.

My prior experience studying fine arts, illustrating and doing content creation for my local newspaper means I am well-equipped with the skills to craft coherent visuals and convey information both effectively and artfully. I am also experienced in designing team merchandise, helping to foster a sense of belonging among team members.

I believe that maintaining a strong social media presence is key to introducing more students to our UCL Taekwondo community, and I hope to be able to work with everyone to create an online platform that resonates with all of us as your new social media officer :-) Thank you!! <3

Alarice Pow Ian-Ning

I am Alarice, a Year 1 student in the Creative Arts & Humanities program and I am running for Social Media Officer for the Taekwondo Society.

As a part of my personal interests and degree, I have developed a knack for designing various mediums of media - whether in photo, or video form. Furthermore, one of my modules specialises in filmmaking which has given me more insight into shooting techniques and editing processes. I am familiar with the softwares Canva, Adobe and Davinci Resolve. Beyond all that, I am a Gen-Z who partakes in a fair share of doomscrolling, hence making myself familiar with the current trends on Instagram and TikTok.

I hope to use this position to give others a peak into the training sessions and to learn more about people in the club, as well as to highlight the magnitude of the team’s achievements in competitions. In the coming academic year, I also hope that the social media posts will be engaging enough, to hopefully garner a larger base of participants for taster sessions and beyond. I also hope to make more interactive video and picture content for the club. I hope to encapsulate the true amount of passion and  at the heart of the Taekwondo Society, as best as possible on social media too! :)

Amira Babou

I’d like to be your social media officer to accumulate more exposure for UCL taekwondo. I have plenty of experience in social media management both on a professional and personal level. I currently run all social media platforms for the Aldridge Foundation and this has helped me to develop my skills because exposure is important to gain funding. It has taught me how to format posts in a professional way including editing videos and graphic design. I have also amassed almost 20k followers on TikTok through posting as a hobby. This has helped me to gain recognition from brands where I have carried out professional collaborations and have received PR for paid opportunities.

I want to expand the online potential for UCL taekwondo in order to reach more people and receive more benefits as a club. I believe I’m the right person for this because I have the determination and motivation to make it happen.
