Alejandro Scholfield Pérez

Hi, my name is Alejandro, currently 3rd year and SurgSoc events officer.

This year, because of my iBSc, I have had time to explore the field of orthopaedics and fell in love with it completely. I have shadowed hip surgeons in Chelsea Westminster and seen Fibula Fracture ORIFs and Scarf Osteotomies at the Whitt among participating in ortho audits there also.

I think these opportunities are very important especially for a career in surgery, regardless of specialty and it is something a lot of people, including myself 2 years ago, are not aware of. I think it is my duty to promote all the necessary pro-active tasks one can undertake in medical school to ease the process of admission into CST. Going into 4th year next year I believe I will have the sufficient experience and knowledge to provide to those in all years of med school.

I would impart as much advice and help by running talks and tutorials, using the skills I have learnt as a transition mentor of the year nominee, and promoting them appropriately using what I have learnt as events officer and bringing in surgeons I have met along the way. As captain of my team in RUMS, I have developed a bond with a lot of medics wanting to forward their careers in surgery but left feeling like they lack guidance. It is time to clear things up for the betterment of all those at UCL Med.

It would be my honour to run for Ortho chair. Thank you.

Mayek Gupta

I am standing for Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Chair to strengthen collaboration between ICSM, GKT, and Barts T&O societies. Expanding these links will enhance members’ access to trauma exposure, particularly in hospitals like the Royal London, outside UCL’s hospital trust. This will also increase our presence at key events like the ICSM International Trauma Conference and iNUGS, providing valuable learning and networking opportunities. I aim to expand student involvement in orthopaedic simulation research through the Royal Free Orthopaedic Department, ensuring early exposure to cutting-edge training. I will also promote attendance at orthopaedic society dinners, where students can connect with leading surgeons. These subsidized events ensure accessibility while fostering professional growth.

I am committed to delivering high-quality tutorials for pre-clinical students, particularly MMB tutorials. To improve society operations, I will introduce a secretarial role for admin support and a sponsorship officer to secure funding. I also plan to reintroduce ‘Takeover Tuesday’ and continue efforts to promote women in T&O by advocating for representation, mentorship, and networking. Strengthening ties with the SEM will create more opportunities for students interested in orthopaedics and sports injuries. Through collaboration, research access, and education, I aim to make the T&O society more inclusive and better connected.
