Over the last year this society has participated in a lot of events. Many collaborating with other universities. While I have enjoyed many of these, including the Q&A with former Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock, they often required traveling to, and therefore, not many of our members were in attendance. Additionally, we have significantly lacked on canvassing sessions and socials - events which maintain the membership of our party. So what do I aim to do to solve these issues?

  1. Produce a clear timetable of events and post it on our social media accounts to ensure members are aware of events and have fair opportunity to plan ahead
  2. Participate in regular campaigning sessions locally - getting involved with Labour Students, London Young Labour and local Constituency Labour Parties
  3. Fortnightly social events - including non-alcoholic events
  4. Continue tours of parliament and speaker events -  with people from a range of charities, think tanks and within the Labour Party
  5. Keep these events as close to campus as possible while still collaborating with other universities

These aims will, of course, be subject to popular demand ensuring I stay accountable throughout my term.

Thank you for reading this far, if you want local, scheduled and varied events vote Joe Thomas.

Sean Voitov

I’m from Epping Forest in Essex, where I serve as Youth Officer and am working to establish a Young Labour branch to increase youth engagement in the area. I know how important it is to create spaces where people feel involved, and I want to bring that same energy to UCL Labour Society.

As a Jew in the party, I believe we can do more to make the society’s events accessible to everyone, ensuring they take place across all days of the week so that no one feels excluded. But beyond accessibility, I want to make our events more frequent, engaging, and impactful.

If elected as Social and Communications Officer, I will focus to Make UCL the social centre of Labour Students:

  • Organise weekly events to keep members active and engaged
  • Invite special guest speakers who bring fresh perspectives and real political experience
  • Advertise like no one has seen before

Labour values are about community, inclusivity, and action, our society should reflect that. I would love the opportunity to make it happen.

Anthony Gurgov

Hi! I’m Anthony, a first-year Law student, and I’m standing because I’m passionate about expanding our socials and strengthening our community.

My goal is to make our society’s events more consistent, ensuring the popular socials, debates, and MP events we love happen on a regular basis. Our society’s unique blend of formal and informal events creates an incredible space to meet new, interesting people while engaging with the politics that inspires us. I’m committed to helping this thrive.

Drawing on my experience as Head of my Sixth Form’s Law Society, I would continue outreach to key Labour Party figures while making sure our events remain personable, welcoming, and accessible. But being in the heart of London, I believe there’s huge untapped potential for growth. We have unparalleled access to other universities and to Parliament itself—opportunities that we should be making the most of.

That’s why I’m proposing a more transparent and regular event schedule, with at least fortnightly socials. By building a stronger, more engaged community, we can expand our external reach—starting with more inter-varsity debates, socials, and events, and extending to an even wider pool of speakers.

The UCL Labour Society is filled with open-minded, engaged students, and as Socials & Community Secretary, my mission would be to enhance our range of events, maximize the opportunities London offers, and create more spaces for interaction, engagement, and fun!
