Hi everyone! I’m Haonan, a second-year Genetics student and your current Events Officer :D
As an active GenSoc committee member, I’ve led multiple lab visits (Birkbeck Cryo-EM, Crick Institute), organized social events (Leaf-printing, Halloween, board games), and hosted speaker talks (Prof. Greig, upcoming Dr. Gonzalez).
This year, I’d love to take on a larger leadership role to coordinate more activities and guide the society’s direction! I am motivated by my passion for genetics and strong desire to serve GenSoc’s like-minded members.
I am confident in my ability to lead GenSoc as President since I've served as President of Kinesis Magazine this year. I led a 15-person committee, managed all aspects (articles, design, events, podcasts), increased article submissions by 195% in a term, and produced two 50+ page print issues with student-made illustrations. I also served as Treasurer of Biopharma Soc, gaining experience in managing finance. These demonstrate my ability to responsibly manage a big team, and strong familiarity with SU admin - allowing me to dive straight into planning and delivering activities without a lengthy transition period.
If elected, I will:
- Ensure monthly genetics speaker talks, panels, and conferences featuring UCL profs and industry experts
- Continue the much-loved internship panel and lab visits
- Set up an anonymous feedback form to gather all members' ideas
- Establish a genetics-tutor/mentor system led by senior students, fostering a sense of community

Hello, my name is Rayan! Like everyone else in this society, I love genetics, and it would be my dream to facilitate an engaging, intellectually stimulating, and welcoming environment where I can share this passion with people from diverse academic backgrounds and cultures.
As a medical student, I know how absolutely important genetics is to our modern understanding of medicine. From congenital conditions to personalised treatments, genetics has truly transformed the very foundations of medicine. Yet, the influence of genetics extends far beyond even this—shaping evolution, technology, agriculture, and even art!
If elected, I will foster a community that expands our academic understanding of genetics through the likes of literature reviews, lab visits, talks, intersociety events, internship opportunities and workshops. Simultaneously, I will reinforce our social connections through creative events like art nights, bake-offs, hybrid academic-social meet-ups, and networking sessions. It would be incredible to create an atmosphere where members can learn with and from one another, regardless of expertise—something I believe our society needs more of.
My first year in this society has been absolutely fantastic—I have thoroughly enjoyed the events, blogs, and overall experience. I am confident that my dedication, vision, and organisational skills will make it even better!
Thank you for considering me for this role. :)

Hi everyone! My name is Madina. I'm a second-year undegrad doing a BSc in Cancer Biomedicine, and I'm running to be the Genetics Society's president next year.
My mission is to make the society a place for students to not only gain a deep theoretical insight into fascinating developments, but also meaningful opportunities that align with their interests and ambitions. As the Head of Journal Club this past year, I liaised with speakers from leading institutions, focusing on practical advice for undergraduates. I also initiated UCL's first-ever Personalised Medicine Conference. Having held multiple other society leadership roles, and developed connections with researchers, PIs, and clinicians as part of my research experience, I'd like to dedicate myself to ensuring we provide every student with a chance to become immersed in an intellectually stimulating environment and gain their most cherished opportunities.
My goal is to make this vision for the society come to life by tapping into the unique, individual talents in the committee and work as a team to best serve our members by implementing the following agenda:
- Hold dedicated panel discussion and speaker events with specialists from industry, academia, and the clinic with a strong networking component
- Introduce "Undergraduate Research Spotlight" sessions judged by UCL academics
- Establish the UCL Personalised Medicine Conference as an annual event with leading professionals and valuable opportunities in the field
Thank you!
Madina:)
