Election post

Hi everyone! I’m Haonan, a second-year Genetics student and your current Events Officer :D
As an active GenSoc committee member, I’ve led multiple lab visits (Birkbeck Cryo-EM, Crick Institute), organized social events (Leaf-printing, Halloween, board games), and hosted speaker talks (Prof. Greig, upcoming Dr. Gonzalez).
This year, I’d love to take on a larger leadership role to coordinate more activities and guide the society’s direction! I am motivated by my passion for genetics and strong desire to serve GenSoc’s like-minded members.
I am confident in my ability to lead GenSoc as President since I've served as President of Kinesis Magazine this year. I led a 15-person committee, managed all aspects (articles, design, events, podcasts), increased article submissions by 195% in a term, and produced two 50+ page print issues with student-made illustrations. I also served as Treasurer of Biopharma Soc, gaining experience in managing finance. These demonstrate my ability to responsibly manage a big team, and strong familiarity with SU admin - allowing me to dive straight into planning and delivering activities without a lengthy transition period.
If elected, I will:
- Ensure monthly genetics speaker talks, panels, and conferences featuring UCL profs and industry experts
- Continue the much-loved internship panel and lab visits
- Set up an anonymous feedback form to gather all members' ideas
- Establish a genetics-tutor/mentor system led by senior students, fostering a sense of community
