Hello! I’m Aaditya, a Biochemistry student with a keen interest in genetics. Having been an active member of the society for the past year, I have gained a great deal from its events (especially the academic talks!) and this would be the perfect opportunity to give back to GenSoc.
As Academic Events Officer, I would:
- Organise events that cater to all levels of expertise and areas of interest, balancing both accessibility and depth while tailoring topics and academics invited to society demand
- Expand the variety of events, maintaining the momentum of our active Journal Club while introducing more lab visits, networking events and guest speaker panels with leading researchers
- Host interactive educational workshops on cutting-edge topics such as epigenetics, gene editing and personalised medicine
- Run career-focussed sessions, providing insight into research pathways in academia and industry, as well as opportunities in related fields such as science communication
I have a proven track record of leadership and event organisation: I was the President of my school’s Student Government and Secretary-General of my school’s annual MUN conference, which welcomed hundreds from across the country. I am a team player and will collaborate closely with other committee members, including the President and Head of the Journal Club, to effectively deliver an enriching experience for all society members.
Feel free to reach out to me at aaditya.gandhi.24@ucl.ac.uk if you have any questions!

Hi, I’m Quỳnh An, an upcoming 3rd year Biological Sciences student.
I’ve loved being Welfare Officer for Genetics Society this year. It’s been amazing to hear from so many incredible researchers, and to meet such lovely people within the Society. I’d love to get further involved by bringing inspiring speakers to UCL next year as Academic Events Officer!
I think it's important to hear about current research within genetics to find out what interests us and to keep us motivated (research talks can also be so interesting!). As Academic Events Officer, I’ll make sure to invite a diverse range of speakers from throughout the field, and listen to all of your feedback by trying to organise presentations about particular topics you want to hear about.
I've loved genetics since I was young (before I even fully understood what it was), growing up with my aunt with Down's syndrome, leading me to intern in a research hospital for genetic diseases. This has made me really passionate about genetics, which is why I’m so motivated to contribute to GenSoc!
I’m very organised and dedicated and being this year's Academic Secretary for Biology Society has given me experience in liaising with professors and professionals, making me well-suited to this position as I’ll effectively communicate with and bring in researchers to present to us.
I’d love to continue contributing to GenSoc and I’d really appreciate your support in making that happen! Thanks for reading!!
