Alishba Ali

My passion for ESG was sparked during my first term when I took an optional climate change module. Exploring the complexities of sustainability, corporate responsibility, and the urgent need for businesses to adapt made me want to dive deeper into the field.  I am excited to explore this further, not just in theory but in practice, understanding how businesses can be more sustainable and how we, as future professionals, can drive meaningful change. Being part of the ESG Society is an incredible opportunity to expand my knowledge, engage with industry leaders, and build connections with like-minded peers. As Vice President, I want to help create an environment where we can all learn, develop valuable skills, and gain insights that will prepare us for impactful careers. This role is not just about leadership for me but it is about learning and growth. As someone who is still new to ESG, I want to deepen my understanding while helping others to do the same. I hope to organise events that inspire, challenge perspectives, and expose us to real-world applications. ESG is evolving rapidly, and I want to be part of a society that promotes curiosity, collaboration, and action. I see this as a chance not only to contribute to the society, but to truly immerse myself in ESG, gaining the exposure and hands on experience needed to turn this passion into a future career. I am excited to learn, network, and work to build upon a society that supports students in exploring this vital field.

Yishu Zhang

ESG Society has given me the platform to engage with ESG, sustainable finance, and green technology. Through debates, guest lectures, and networking events, I’ve gained insights that reinforced my commitment to expanding opportunities. I am running for Vice President to broaden the society’s reach, improve events, and strengthen industry connections.

I bring three key strengths to this role. Firstly, I understand what makes events impactful. In a debate on fossil fuels in developing countries, I presented structured arguments and was recognized for my analytical approach, reinforcing my belief in critical discussions.

Secondly, I have strong organizational and partnership-building experience. As a Public Relations member of EZ Well Being Society, I expanded partnerships with 80+ professionals and 10+ companies and helped establish a collaboration with Imperial College CSSA, strengthening cross-university connections. These experiences demonstrate my ability to coordinate events and build networks—skills I will leverage to grow ESG Society.

Lastly, my analytical and communication skills will strengthen collaborations. At Oxfam, I optimized inventory and promoted the UK’s Gift Aid scheme, gaining practical ESG experience. As Vice President, I will expand partnerships, organize impactful discussions, and create career opportunities.

With my experience and dedication, I am confident I can strengthen the society and drive meaningful discussions on sustainability.

Farhia Abdi

Dear ESG Members,

As Vice President, my aim is to drive our society's mission forward, fostering innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth.

In the past year, I have had the privilege of working closely with the ESG Society as a Marketing Associate and Co-Head of Marketing for the UCL Green Economy Society. These roles have deepened my passion for sustainability and fuelled my desire to contribute at a higher level. My industry experience in varied sectors has equipped me with the necessary network and skills to further elevate our society.

Here are some objectives I would like to execute through my role as Vice President:

  • Securing sponsorships from leading brands and companies with sustainability at the forefront to enhance our resources and align us with industry leaders who share our ESG commitment.
  • Introducing a mentorship scheme to support our members in their career development by connecting them with professionals in sustainability-focused roles. This will include guidance on applications for internships, spring weeks, and further career opportunities.
  • Expanding outreach and engagement through inter-university competitions, workshops, and conferences to elevate our society's presence and impact within the ESG community.

Thank you for your consideration, and hopefully, your vote!

Zeeniya Mehdi

Dear ESG Members,

Just 3 months into joining the ESG Society, I was promoted to Head of Events, simply because I wanted to build something bigger. I expanded our industry network and led events that drew record-breaking engagement, proving that ESG is not just a niche interest, but a field that should be accessible, ambitious, and career-defining for students.
Having worked on fundraising for Pakistan’s pioneering $40M Climate Fund (more about it in Forbes!), I saw firsthand how finance, policy, and innovation intertwine to drive real impact. But I also saw that breaking into ESG remains unnecessarily difficult. Opportunities are scattered, networks are limited, and access depends too much on knowing the right people.

If elected as Vice President, that will change. This society is already strong, but it can be so much bigger; More mentorship, more industry connections, and more high-value opportunities.

What Comes Next?

ESG Mentorship Program: Real connections with alumni and industry leaders for career guidance, shadowing, and internships.

Bigger, Better Events: Case competitions, policy debates, and hands-on workshops that deliver actual industry experience.

Expanding ESG Beyond Finance: Collaborations across law, tech, and policy so ESG is a space for everyone at UCL and beyond.

Industry & Career Partnerships: Corporate partnerships, office visits, and (hopefully) direct internship pipelines.

Member-Driven Growth: Mid-term and end-of-term feedback loops to shape what comes next.
