Salutations! 👋
I’m Maya, a second-year English student, current Workshop Officer, and I’d love to be your president next year!
Get To Know Me: 🙋♀️
- Around Campus: You might know me from the Common Room, where I spend 80% of my time. Please feel free to say hi—I love yapping (maybe a bit too much…) & finding out what people are up to!
- Fun Facts: I’m a green tea addict with bad music taste (hello NCTzens 💚) but great book taste!
- Favourite Reads: Marlowe’s Edward II, Shakespeare’s Troilus and Criseyde, DeFoe’s Roxana, & Sterne’s Tristam Shandy (genuinely!)
My Experience: 📝
- This Year: As Workshop Officer, I helped organise workshops on narrative writing, eco-criticism, unseen extract analysis, & (upcoming!) metrical analysis
- My Vision: I believe the society should support English students with their studies & offer opportunities to explore outer-curriculum literary topics. I'd also value your direct feedback on what you’d like to see—no idea is too adventurous!
My Aims: 🎯
- Continuing Success:
- Expand our society magazine, Green & Gilded
- grow Fluency Over a Cup of Tea for language enthusiasts
- Going Digital: 📱
- Create an official TikTok account for advertising, memes, book reviews & study content!
- Inter-Society Events:
- Collaborate with other societies (e.g. LGBTQ+ Network, Art History)
- Strengthen connections with other universities in London (e.g. KCL)
- Signature Events: 🎉
- Make the 2026 ball an Instagram-worthy event!
Thank you for considering me! 🫶

Hi! I'm Sophie, a first year undergraduate for English. As a social ambassador for the society, I am currently organising a pub crawl to encourage for societal interaction and to aid in the development of a community. I am also helping in organising other events, including this year's ball! Through this role, I have had the opportunity to learn from the current committee, developing the skills necessary to take a larger role in the team next year. Having been chair of a similar society (a Lit & Phil society), I have prior applicable leadership experience. I have enjoyed my first year of university and building a community around me, and I would be honoured to help other people, new to university, to settle in and have a similar, positive, experience. As President, I would commit myself to growing the society, increasing participation, from all people, and collaboration. I would continue the workshops and talks led by the previous committee, whilst increasing and providing a wider range of socials and other opportunities. I love both working in a team and on my own, and have the time and, I believe, the abilities to run the society in a fun and constructive way. As a volunteer in a local primary school helping with reading, and training to be a volunteer to teach Afghan women English, I am focused on giving back to the community that has given so much to me, and would build a charity initiative to the society, allowing those who wanted to a path to help others. Thank you!
