Serving as the 24/25 Connect.ed Committee’s Events Officer has given me a deep appreciation for the Connect.ed community. Through organising and running successful social events, I was able to engage with a wide range of society members, learning about their diverse interests and helping to foster the vibrant atmosphere that defines Connect.ed. Beyond my event‐planning work, my role as a Research Assistant at the Institute for Fiscal Studies has strengthened my passion for research, making my connection to this society which is based upon research even stronger.
Therefore, I am running for the Treasurer position for the 25/26 Connect.ed Committee. My background in economics and finance, which acquired through work experience and my PPE studies, equips and excites me to take on the new Treasurer role. Crucially, my perspective as Events Officer has given me insight into how and where funds can be most effectively spent to boost society membership and increase event attendance. By transitioning from Events to Treasury, I will leverage these skills and experiences to bring tangible benefits to the society’s future growth. I would ensure that Connect.ed’s financial resources are used strategically to expand opportunities for members, enhance event accessibility, and strengthen long-term sustainability. With a proactive approach, I will ensure that Connect.ed’s financial decisions support its vibrant community, fostering both innovation and stability for the year ahead.

I am keen to work with the Connect.ED Society at UCL as Treasurer as I would like carry on the duties of financial management in budgeting for events, talks and socials for members. I am also interested in launching a wider scope for the society in representing the specific needs of students such as in connection to job markets, future academic niches and training sessions which would all require support.I feel confident in having useful skills and experiences to work effectively as Treasurer. Last year I was part of the ASEAN conference Society as Head of Liaison, a role which combined liaising with UK and international companies and Departments to fund the society and its conference. This role required a extensive collaboration and outreach, which helped build my skills in communication, time management and long-term scheduling from plans towards the Conference and identifying potential sponsorships. I believe this experience would be key in supporting my role in working with the geography society. My second society role was as Deputy of Globus, a student-run sustainability magazine. Those experiences of working with students and hearing their academic and education pathways is what inspired me to apply for this role. I hope to expand the range of research opportunities given to students here at UCL by allowing for students to engage in research during their course which is an empowering experience for future study and work.
