Nancy Yang

Hi everyone, my name is Nancy and I am a first year BSc Psychology student.

I am applying for the role of Welfare Officer because I am passionate about fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where all members feel valued and empowered. As a Psychology student, I have a strong interest in behavioural science and its real-world applications, I believe that promoting well-being within the society will enhance both individual experiences and collective innovation. My ability to collaborate with welfare officers from other societies and contribute to SU campaigns will help raise awareness of key issues affecting our community. Additionally, I am eager to take initiative in managing welfare fund applications that promote mental well-being, accessibility and engagement within the society.

As a current member of Physical Applied Project team, I am familiar with BIS's targets and goals, as well as how to effectively communicate with team members. Through strategic planning and teamwork, I aim to support committee members in organising impactful events that align with the society’s mission, ensuring that welfare remains at the heart of our activities.

Being part of the society for the first time this year, I love how it brings people together in a fun and welcoming atmosphere while learning as a community. I would love to contribute to this as part of the team!

My three years of coaching at summer camps strengthened my leadership, problem-solving, and listening skills—essential for working with children and teenagers. These skills are highly transferable to this role, helping me support and connect with people effectively.

As a Leo Club member in Turkey, I’ve gained experience in event organization, formal presentations, and teamwork. Clear communication is key to leadership, and I’d love to bring this to the society.

Completing a Foundation Year improved my time management, helping me balance academics with extracurriculars. As my class’s Student Representative, I learned how to engage with people in meaningful ways to create positive change.

As a neuroscience student, my passion for behaviour and science has merged, and I believe my background can contribute to the society while providing a friendly face and a safe atmosphere for all.

A welcoming environment makes all the difference, and the committee plays a key role in fostering that. As Welfare and Volunteering Officer, I’d bring my organizational skills and positive energy to create a supportive and engaging experience for everyone.

I’m excited about the opportunity to join this amazing team!

Best,
Defne
