Sam Farr

We all consume social media all day, so we might as well fill it with the lovely faces of UCL snowsports!

This year at snowsports I’ve seen a reoccurring issue: engagement of individuals comes in waves. I’ve met people unsure if they can return to training after not coming for a bit or unsure if they are able to join in the first place. Also, confusion over where socials are happening and themes is common. While all this information is shared on the group-chats, not everyone checks their facebook. I believe this could be resolved with social media.

Media is a unique tool that we can utilise to its utmost potential to show everyone a snippet of our club. I think we can get involvement up by making training and races seem less unapproachable. By filming clips of different facets of our sports (training, racing, even the journey there) and providing posts that give a run through of all the upcoming month’s social calendar, we will minimise the fear of trying something new. This would also give people time to plan and make a more welcoming space!

Having worked as the media manager at a ski school last year, I understand that consistency in posting and clear communication leads to higher practical engagement.

This club has so much more to offer than ski trips and I want everyone to see that too (sometimes you get to meet Chloe Burrows). Also (let’s be real) we all like a good shot of ourselves in action and I will happily be behind the camera making sure no one gets missed out!

Alexander Macdonald

I believe that the true role of the media and marketing officer has little to do with going viral, after all, who really cares how many views a reel about a trip gets? What matters is reach within UCL, importantly leading to trip sales and growth of members. As both a skier, snowboarder, and an avid beer fan, I have a presence in nearly every corner of Snowsports: both racing and socials. This puts me at an advantage to most for this role that oversees all aspects of the club, as I will be active and aware of what’s going on all throughout the society. Next year, I believe marketing should have a greater focus on our freshers. Freshers tend to choose a club at the start of their year and stick with it, so we need to make sure that we are the forefront of societies that people want to try out. To do this, I will provide clear and early information about social events and make sure word of our events are known throughout campus, specifically freshers, and not just people already interested in the club. Importantly, I will post our members more, so that reposts can increase our reach to other UCL members and furthermore, I will humanise our social media presence so that a friendlier and more open environment is conveyed to people considering joining. Overall, I want to make sure that Snowsports is shown as a place where you can meet friends easily and enjoy yourself, regardless of why you are joining. Being chronically online already, this is a challenge well suited for me.

Valentine Basire

Hey! My name is Valentine Basire, and I would love to convince people to join this awesome society in all the ways this position will allow me to.

I am someone who loves taking pictures and filming memories, so much so that I bought a digital camera that I bring along everywhere. I could take super cool pictures of the society’s events and promote them, which I first tried at the boat ball!

We all know how most of us pick our favorite activities when scrolling on Instagram or Tiktok, that’s why I plan to do weekly recaps for every training and competition, updating the Instagram highlights to show the variety of events we offer, and using different communications platforms such as Whatsapp.

I’ve been making video edits on Final Cut Pro for 6 years, only to have recaps of the best moments spent with my friends! I also have experience in this position as I’m responsible for digital marketing for a beach restaurant, both helpful tools for this position.

I love making friends, doing trainings/competitions, and belonging to a club, I feel like owning merch of the club makes you feel like you belong. If I were elected committee I would also promote the merch on social media and, if possible, help to handle it ( offering new designs/ personalizable options…).

I hope to be able to convince a lot of people to join the fun we have at all our various events and increase the reputation of the society. While capturing memorable moments that we’ll remember for years to come!

Selin Mawdsley

Hi, I’m Selin and, as a first-year student, I have felt incredibly welcomed by the Snowsports Society. As a candidate for Media and Marketing Officer, I aim to maintain this inclusivity and bring more people to join the society which, I believe, can start from their first impression of Snowsports at UCL through our social media presence. It is of importance to display and highlight, not only the upcoming events but the friendly and sociable community that Snowsports has to offer.

Frequent and engaging content will be our mantra, ensuring that Snowsports at UCL is well-advertised, bringing more people to events, even just as spectators at competitions. I would retain the aesthetic and the theming behind our prominent and striking Instagram, whilst posting more about what Snowsports consists of from training to socials to competitions. Promoting and emphasising the demand for the trip will guarantee quick sell-outs, making the ski trip more renowned long-term.

Seeking advice from the Red Bull Social Media Manager for Snow and Adventure will provide invaluable insights into maximising our reach and impact. Additionally, we'll take our content to new heights by filming skiing videos and capturing first-person perspectives such as during a run of the freestyle snow park. Utilising film or disposable cameras will add a nostalgic charm to our posts, adding to the sense of community. These strategies will showcase the inclusive nature of this remarkable society.

Milica Pejic

Hi snow lovers! I’m Milica, a second-year Maths nerd who’s obsessed with skiing and I’m running for the position of Snowsports Club Media & Marketing Officer.

I spend more time than I’d like to admit glued to my screen, watching ski videos on every social media platform. It was actually through Instagram that I found out about the Snowsports Club. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting the vibes to be so chill and welcoming right from my first freestyle training session and I think this deserves way more recognition. My proposal is to add more funny photos and bloopers on a weekly basis, as this would help to expand the reach of the club.

My goal is to make more posts on competitions, socials, and content from ski trips. Some of my TikToks and photos can be seen on our Club’s Insta profile. During the trip, many of you took insane pictures with GoPros that I believe should’ve been posted, especially as ski trips are also our main source of income. Another suggestion would be a TikTok account and we must make a WhatsApp group chat.

What sets me apart is my creativity. I have experience in professional photo shoots due to a course I completed in photography and for three summers I learnt about advertising and industrial design, doing advanced work on Photoshop and Adobe Express. I am excited to bring this experience into the role by also improving our club’s merch: personalised gear with names/ stickers to be put on helmets, skis, and snowboards!

Let's get others to join us ;))
