Hi everyone! I am going to be standing for Treasurer this year. I understand that this is a massive role within Surgical society, and I do not take this job lightly. I know I will do well in this position and would like to take this challenge!

As previous Director of Finance for iNUGSC, I have gained experience being part of the organising a conference and was involved in important decisions such as deciding the ticket prices and numbers, budgeting for the conference, keeping a record of all expenses and communicating with sponsors. This year we were able to obtain 5 financial sponsorships, as well as other sponsorships for subscriptions and goody bags. I have thoroughly enjoyed contacting companies and persuading them to sponsor our society.

Whilst in this position, I also worked alongside the Treasurer and have realised the importance of communication. As someone who is readily available and easy to contact, I will be replying to all your emails and messages as soon as possible. I will also be updating other members of the society, when necessary, continue my relationships with the sponsors that I obtained this year from iNUGSC and most importantly liaising with the Student’s Union. I believe I am quite reliable, so will keeping a thorough record of expenditure and revenue of the society with regular financial statements.

I have many ideas to make Surgical Society thrive and am excited to be an advisor for all great events that gets run throughout the year!

Parth A Tagdiwala

I am standing for this position because I am keen to get involved in Surgical Society events. I have enjoyed organising events this year as I was chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) . I would like to share this experience with Chairs who will join us this year and help them run succesful events. As part of OMFS I ran the following events:

1. Six part lecture series based on the different aspects of a OMFS surgeon

2. Aesthetics month lectures

3. A research symposium and abstract competition

4. Helped organise OMFS surgicals during surgical skills day

These events demonstrate I have succesfully organised events and am passionate about surgery. I am keen to share my experiences and contacts with future society members.

I am keen to write and send a weekly newsletters and I have fresh ideas. Firstly I would like to improve our newsletters so that they include more opportunities from other surgical socieities as well as our own. Secondly, I have noticed we are not utilising social media very effectively to engage with members. To improve on this I am keen to start a YouTube channel and utilise other social media platforms too.

I hope this has demonstrated to you how I have fresh ideas and I am passionate about this role.

Being the treasurer of surgical society would be a fulfilling role allowing me to contribute previously developed skills to the financial management of the society. Due to my personal experience working with a food bank/volunteering association, I have extensive experience in procuring sponsorships, creating and managing budgets, ensuring accurate financial records are kept, and making sure that resources are used effectively and efficiently. My previous experience as a Logistics Coordinator for iNUGSC has also allowed me to develop my organisational skills in balancing and prioritising tasks, alongside communicating with various companies and other professional organisations. As I am entering 3rd year, I am confident I would have the time and energy required to commit to a core committee position such as Treasurer and remain readily contactable. Additionally, serving as treasurer would provide valuable experience in financial management in combination with leadership, which would be beneficial in future professional settings. I am sure of my ability to collaborate with other committee members to make important financial decisions and well as working independently to manage the financial affairs of the society. Overall, I want to utilise my skills to make a positive impact on Surgical Society and further develop and grow the opportunities we are able to provide.
