Govinder Singh Toor

Sat Sri Akal,

My name is Govinder Singh Toor, a 2nd year medical student, and I am grateful to be running for President of UCL Sikh Society.

As Sikhs, we are taught about the importance of being surrounded by the right Sangat, and I feel fortunate to have found such an incredible group of people through this society.

As President, I am committed to upholding the work of Shaun and Simran, building on the strong foundation which they have established. Seva is a vital part of Sikhism, and some of my fondest memories at university have been while participating in service projects. I aim to work with members to identify and undertake more meaningful projects that benefit our community and create a positive impact in the world.

I am currently serving as the Religious and Interfaith Officer on the committee, and I am also the Social Secretary and Social Media Officer in other societies. These experiences have equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to thrive as President of our society.

Being elected as President would also be an opportunity for me to deepen my connection to Sikhi. I understand that everyone is on their own unique journey, and I will make it my priority to ensure that the society remains an inclusive and welcoming space for all.

The family-like atmosphere of our society is something that I deeply cherish, and if elected, I promise to give my 110% to take our society to new heights.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

Hannah Kaur

Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji ki Fateh. I am Hannah Kaur, and I am currently a first-year student in BSc. Bioprocessing of New Medicines (Business and Management). I am applying for the role of President because Sikhi has given me a lot and I believe that having this role would put me in a position where I will be able to give back to it.

Being an international student, my biggest fear was that moving abroad will somehow turn me away from my Guru as I might get distracted and follow a path that I wasn’t meant to be on. But He does take care of his kids, doesn’t He! I felt so privileged to be an FYR for the society and be a part of a community that was all about love for Waheguru.

If I become the president, I would, by God’s Grace, try to make sure that this legacy is carried on. This would include on-campus Kirtan Durbars, Langar on Campus, meet and greets, talks, and career events. New initiatives would include: -

IMAGINE HAVING WEEKLY SANGATS TO EXPRESS OUR LOVE FOR GURUMAHARAJ!

  • Weekly Path sessions- Baani translation and explanation.
  • Weekly Simran and meditation sessions: Early morning (Amrit vela).
  • Gurudwara trips every Sunday.
  • New topics for talks- Amrit, Rebirths, Karma, and each would be followed by a Q and A session.
  • Mentorship programs with well-established Sikh alumni.

I have been the ECA Prefect for my school for a year and have helped organize international round square conferences. I was also the founder of the debate club for YPS. Thus, I hope you all could trust me that if I am elected, I, By
