Since applying for university, I have really enjoyed ethical discussions that take place in the medical and legal world. Having conversations and hearing other people's ideas and being able to express your own is a great way to examine your own views, while expanding your understanding of very real complex situations. To be the Vice President of a society that encourages these sorts of discussions would allow my own interest in medical ethics to grow. I would like to support the society to continue its current events that it runs, while also being able to expand it.
Being a medical student, I have had opportunities to learn about and have ethical discussions in the course and beyond, and being able to continue this for a year would be really fun.
Being a Biomed student, I am extremely passionate about ethical issues in science and have been in the bioethics society for a whole year. I am more than ever eager to get more involved in this loving community and provide community members with interesting knowledge and fascinating activities.
I believe the events officer are expected to create and organize events, which requires creativity and great communication skills. My past experience of being the president of my high school’s Student Council trained my team-working skill, where I propose and organise school events together with my team such as School Talent Show. I also worked as a part-time A level Biology tutor and my experience of being a hippo-therapy volunteer for disabled children gave me great ability of empathy, being able to quickly figure out their needs and communicate efficiently. As a person who always has creative ideas and an open mind, I believe I have the capability of being a great event officer and bringing members with many engagement events in the future.
Having to be the social secretary for BMLSoc, I realised how satisfied and eye opening it is to be involved in this society, especially the tension full yet interesting and insightful bioethic discussions sessions. This discussion groups are initiative spearheaded by our current VP, which was one of the things that inspired me to nominate myself here. This is something I want to continue pushing forward as a VP for the upcoming tenure, alongside with new innovative ideas of mine to increase the engagement, satisfactions, and intellectual discourse among our members and potential members. In short, I hope to leverage my capabilities and my passion for this society into the role of VP to shape an even better image and most importantly, continue to establish our presence and importance in UCL
Hi! I’m Aminah and I’m a Biomedical Sciences student who will be in their final year for next year. I joined BMLSoc at the start of this academic year and I’ve enjoyed learning about the external factors that intertwine with science and medicine. As Vice President, I want to continue to be a part of this society’s growth so that we can welcome as many people as possible!
Being a committee member this year as the Marketing and Publicity Officer has allowed me to understand the commitment and characteristics required to contribute effectively to BMLSoc. I believe you need to be organised, proactive and most of all, friendly! In my committee role, I’ve shown my ability to communicate effectively and do tasks with short notice- both skills that I’ll apply well as VP!
This society is about providing an encouraging environment when discussing pressing issues and as your VP, I would focus on providing this friendly environment. I would work with others to organise events that allow us to talk about relevant issues in an informal way, for example with more movie nights! I’m approachable and able to collaborate with others, meaning that I would help others with their roles. As VP, you need to be there for committee members as well as the rest of the society and I think my openness to others means that I can do this well.
Thanks for considering me! No matter what, I look forward to what BMLSoc brings next year and hopefully I can contribute to it!
