Whether you are a seasoned tennis competitor, have never picked up a racket before, or are simply just looking for a friendly social scene, RUMS Tennis has something for everyone, providing an exciting platform for beginners and strong competition for advanced players.
We run tennis sessions for members of all levels every Wednesday, as well as squad training on Monday evenings for those who wish to represent the Medical School in competition. We currently have two men's teams, one women's team Each team has the chance to compete in the BUCS (British University and College Sport) league every Wednesday afternoon as well as cup competitions such as the UH (United Hospitals) cup, the second oldest ongoing tennis tournament after Wimbledon which we boast to have won many times in recent years. We also have a very competitive mixed team competing in the LUSL (London Universities Sports League) on a Saturday, having just been promoted to the highest division of the league last year. Members of our squad also have the opportunity to represent the UH team against top institutions such as the Royal Air Force, and train at the Wimbledon Championship's grounds.
If playing tennis is not your style, that's still okay! You can still be a part of our strong social scene, with weekly Sport's Nights at the Huntley, national tours, dinners, and opportunities to go to the ATP World Tour Finals, Wimbledon and the French Open. RUMS Tennis is an opportunity to meet a diverse range of students in the Medical School and further afield, facilitating long-lasting friendships right across year groups and improving your tennis ability along the way!
