Veronika is the President of the Entrepreneurs Society at UCL.

Veronika shared with us how getting involved in societies - and going on to take on a leadership role - has been a big part of her uni experience, and a great way to give back to the student community.

Getting involved

I've been involved with societies at UCL from my day one – the sheer number of societies at UCL struck me! It was really exciting, and I remember browsing the list before starting first year and seeing the calendar of events that were going to take place. I wanted to be involved in everything! Throughout my first year, I did lots of tasters with different societies, and tried to get involved as much as possible, which is a habit that I maintained for all three years.

Interested in taking on leadership roles, I became a First Year Rep in the AI Society in my first year, and later, in second year, I took on four roles in different societies (UCL Guild, UCL TEDx, Fleming Society and UCL Entrepreneurs).

I am so grateful to have met so many brilliant people along the way who have helped me throughout the journey.

Entrepreneurship being my key interest, I ran for President and was lucky enough to win. This role, although challenging at times, was one of the most gratifying experiences of my academic career. UCL has a phenomenal entrepreneurial culture, and I wanted to further develop it and help our 860 members to engage with it. I am proud of the work my committee has done - I truly believe that I have been blessed with the best team. Together, we have introduced new collaborations, strengthened the existing ones, and organised over 42 events for our members and other students to benefit from.

I am so grateful to have met so many brilliant people along the way who have helped me throughout the journey. And I sincerely hope that I myself have made an impact as UCL Entrepreneurs Society President. Once, someone approached me and said that they came to a VC workshop event that I organised, and now they are working part-time in a VC firm, while they knew nothing of the industry beforehand. I was almost brought to happy tears. There is nothing like knowing that something you do makes a difference.
