🎬 Join Us for PictureEast Film Festival Volunteering with The New Black Film Collective in Barking
UCL students will support the delivery of the PictureEast Film Festival (PEFF), a vibrant community film festival celebrating underrepresented voices in cinema. Volunteers will work together in small teams to assist with festival setup, audience support, stewarding, community engagement, and post-event pack down. All activities are collaborative, accessible, and beginner-friendly, with clear guidance and support provided throughout the day.
The New Black Film Collective (TNBFC) is a community-focused organisation dedicated to celebrating underrepresented voices in cinema. Through events like the PictureEast Film Festival (PEFF), TNBFC creates inclusive cultural spaces that amplify diverse filmmakers, stories, and communities.
🧤 What’s a Big Help Out?
Big Help Outs are fun one-off volunteering opportunities that involve a big group. It’s all about small actions creating big change when we work together. At our events, you’ll always find friendly student and staff faces to make sure you feel welcome and supported.
đź’ˇ Why Join In?
You’ll help deliver an inclusive, community-led film festival while gaining hands-on experience in arts, culture, and community engagement, all while supporting local audiences, filmmakers, and creatives.
To support your involvement, travel expenses will be reimbursed, and as this opportunity runs for more than six hours, refreshments and/or lunch support will be provided.
📍 Meet-Up Point
To make it easier to get involved, you can travel to the event with a member of our team. This is a great way to meet fellow volunteers, make new friends, and arrive together.

Please note: Please meet at 13:00 at the meet up point, we will leave the Meet-Up Point at 13:10, the stated time, so please arrive promptly.
👥 What to Expect
- Set Up & Support: Help prepare event spaces, including signage, seating, and information points.
- Audience Engagement: Welcome guests, guide audiences, and support ticket checks and guest flow.
- Creative Contribution: Assist with photography, videography, and social media content.
- Behind the Scenes: Support contributors, assist with Q&A sessions, and help with pack down and space reset.
All tasks are team-based, no lone working.
đź‘• What to Wear
Please wear comfortable clothing and flat, closed-toe shoes suitable for standing and light movement indoors. Festival T-shirts and a full briefing will be provided on the day. A volunteer handbook can be shared once participation is confirmed.
