Unlock skills, confidence and your future 🔓

Not sure what comes next after university? You don’t need to have it all figured out.

The ExtendED Conference is a two-day, student-friendly event open to all taught UCL students. It’s designed to help you recognise the skills you already have, explore new ones, and start developing the skills that matter beyond your degree, all in a supportive, low-pressure space.

What’s happening?

Across two days, you’ll take part in keynote talks, interactive workshops, and hands-on sessions led by speakers from across UCL and beyond. Sessions will introduce and develop transferable skills such as:

  • storytelling with data
  • critical thinking in an AI-influenced world
  • communicating across sectors and audiences
  • networking in a way that actually feels comfortable

The full programme will be shared closer to the event (19 May), but expect practical activities, discussion, and plenty of chances to reflect on how these skills show up in different careers and contexts.

Why come along?

The ExtendED Conference is both an introduction to the skills worth thinking about for life after university, and a space to actively start developing them. It’s also a chance to build awareness of your strengths, identify skills you’d like to grow, and gain confidence in taking your next steps.

Build confidence. Develop skills. Discover your strengths.

What skills will I leave with?

By the end of the conference, you’ll have started to develop skills linked to the Fundamentals stage of the ExtendED Learning Programme, including:

  • self-awareness — recognising your existing skills and strengths
  • critical thinking — questioning ideas, information, and assumptions
  • communication — sharing ideas clearly with different audiences
  • data literacy — understanding and telling stories with data
  • professional confidence — engaging in discussions, networking, and new environments

You won’t master everything in two days — but you will leave with greater clarity about the skills you have, the ones you want to develop, and how to keep building them.

Who’s this for?

All taught UCL students, at any stage of your degree.
Whether you’re just starting out, thinking ahead to graduation, or simply curious about your skills and options, this event is for you.

Do I need experience?

No experience needed.
No clear career plan required.

The conference is designed to be introductory and welcoming, giving you space to explore skills, ask questions, and learn alongside other students.

Part of the ExtendED Learning Programme

The ExtendED Conference is part of the ExtendED Learning Programme and offers a core route into the Fundamentals stage. It’s designed as a starting point; after the conference, you can continue developing your skills by taking part in other ExtendED opportunities, whether later this year or in future years as you progress through your degree.
