Are you looking for a fun, social sport? Do you want to learn an amazing skill and be part of a friendly, inclusive community? Then the much anticipated Fresher’s Day at the River is an event you won’t want to miss. You’ll never get this kind of chance to row on the Thames for free ever again!

What will I get to do during FDATR?

You’ll get to row, discover a new part of London and enjoy a lovely free BBQ whilst meeting fellow RUMSBC rowers. It’s also an amazing opportunity to meet other UCL Medics, who can’t wait to welcome a new cohort of Freshers to the club! Last year was a huge success, and we had some truly memorable outings in the sun. Start your Freshers in style, and join us on the 30th for the start of your RUMSBC journey! Great memories guaranteed.

We will be shortly releasing a Google Form for you to sign-up so we can get info about your dietary and accessibility requirements etc.

How do I get there?

Meet under the RUMSBC banner in the Main Quad at 12pm sharp where you will be taken by coach to the Boathouse.

The Boathouse is located at 81 Hartington Road, Chiswick, W4 3TU. At the end of the taster session you will be taken back to campus by RUMSBC members on the tube, therefore please bring a contactless card/oyster card.

Spaces on the coach are limited and are on a first come first served basis, so please come on time! If there are no spaces left on the coach, you will be taken on the tube to the Boathouse by other RUMSBC members :)

Staying in the loop!

Make sure to join the WhatsApp group where will post all updates. Follow our Instagram/ Facebook - @rumsbc, to hear all you need to know about FDATR closer to the date :)

FAQs

Do I need any rowing experience to join?

No experience needed, just bring your friends, some clothes you don’t mind getting wet, and get ready to have an amazing day on the water! The majority of us here at RUMSBC joined the club with zero experience - ever since, we’ve absolutely loved this sport and the amazing opportunities we’ve had to row, race and cox on the Thames amongst world famous clubs.

Do I need to be a medic to join?

Absolutely not! A big proportion of our club is made up of non-medics. From architecture to policing, history to economics, there’s room for everyone here at RUMSBC.

What should I wear/bring on the day?

We recommend wearing sports clothes and bringing sliders/flip-flops/crocs with you to wade into the water in. If you don't have these you can borrow a pair when you get there. Bring a jumper as the event will be outdoors.

Is there access to a multi-faith room?

Please contact your novice captain if you require access to a multi-faith room, we will try our best to accommodate, but unfortunately there isn't a specific room in the Boathouse at the moment. We are working to create a space for this year.

Who do I contact if I have any further questions?

Any questions please do get in touch! Feel free to DM us on Instagram @rumsbc or send a message to your novice captains!
