Every week, Platypus hosts coffee breaks, where members can have a discussion surrounding an article of the week to share thoughts, ideas, and critiques. This is an open space for all participants to partake in despite their level of understanding of Marxist theory/ history. Above all, Platypus is an educational project that emphasises the need for open dialogue to enable us to learn form each other through exposure to a varying range of perspectives. Come along and see for yourself!

This weeks article is: Egypt, or, history’s invidious comparisons: 1979, 1789, and 1848 by Chris Cutrone linked below/ can also be found on www.platypus1917.org

https://platypus1917.org/2011/03/01/egypt-or-historys-invidious-comparisons-1979-1789-and-1848/

It outlines the Arab spring with a special focus on Egypt and compares the 2011 uprising to the French Revolution of 1789, the 1848 Spring Revolutions in Europe and the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran to examine the extent in which the 2011 uprisings led to meaningful change.

If that seems like something you may be interesting in, be sure to swing by!
