Astrobiology: How does life come about?
We are lucky to have Prof Nick Lane, main speaker, author, and renowned evolutionary biologist (at UCL!) presenting, as well as Professor Ian Crawford, prominent astroiologist, planetary scientist and author, in addition to some speakers from the SETI institute including Bronwyn Syiek and Fritz Demopoulos.
Arrive at 17:30 if you want food and drinks, as the conference will start at 18:00 SHARP!!!
Now to the exciting part, where you can participate!
The competition: "Astrobiology: the 5 most essential steps from inorganic matter to intelligent life". You have to boil the incredibly complex history of evolution down to what you thing the 5 most important events have been. This will also have to come with some personal opinion of where and how you believe life to have originated.
- Who can participate? Any student, at any level of study (under or postgrad). You can participate alone, or with a group of people!
- When will this be? Tuesday 10 March 2026, on UCL's campus.
- How long is the presentation? A maximum of 10 mins.
- What do I get if I win? Well, even just for participating, you can win £20! The winning team will win an additional £100.
