About us
We are the Environment Agency. Our ambition is to lead the response to the climate emergency. A key part of this is preparing and adapting to our changing climate.
As the world warms, more extreme and less predictable weather patterns will become more likely, leading to higher flood risk. We cannot respond to the climate emergency alone. We need local communities and businesses to play their part in responding to increased flood risk.
Description
We are looking for enthusiastic and creative volunteers with skills in webpage development and digital communication to redesign our flood awareness webpage to make it more impactful and engaging: https://engageenvironmentagency.uk.engagementhq.com/be-flood-prepared
You will be helping turn our general flood-related information into something more engaging and impactful by using the text editor and HTML coding to include a selection of:
- Linked images,
- Photo galleries,
- Side panels for extra content,
If time allows, develop animated videos to facilitate understanding of climate-related issues:
- Types of flooding,
- Signing up to warning services,
- Developing flood plans,
- Things to include in a grab bag,
- Recovering from a flood (cleaning and staying safe)
You will be working directly with the Flood Resilience Engagement Advisor at the Environment Agency.
Adapt existing webpage to make it more dynamic, easier to use and more inviting for stakeholders to input own information.
Use digital skills to create interactive graphics to help communicate flood risk messaging. The webpage is limited in what it can support and further information will be provided prior to starting work along with the information to change. Volunteers will have the freedom to decide the most effective way of displaying the information.
Create/ take part in videos that reflect flood risk in urban areas and explain how flooding works.
Develop templates and instructions for the webpage that can be shared across the Environment Agency along with the examples you have developed. This will mean other staff can use these to improve how we use the webpage to engage with stakeholders.
