Description

Based in our Resource Centre in Victoria, this is a hands on, practical role that’s crucial in ensuring that service users can access our basic primary services when visiting us.

You will volunteer as part of a team of six volunteers, supervised by one of our Chefs. Duties include serving hot food, serving tea/coffee, making up cutlery wraps, filling condiment caddies, washing up and clearing down at the end of service. We serve between 80 - 100 people every day.  

We are committed to creating a safe, non – judgmental space for everyone here at The Passage, regardless of who they are and there is an expectation that volunteers understand this and behave accordingly towards people using our services, other volunteers, visitors  and members of staff. 

Duties
  • Serving hot and cold food from service counter to clients
  • Preparing tea and coffee
  • Pot washing service chaffing trays by hand (they don’t fit in the dishwasher)
  • Loading dishwasher trays with plates, cutlery etc and operating the dishwasher
  • Cleaning and sanitizing tables in the dining room and work surfaces in the kitchen
  • Putting clean dishes/pots/cutlery away
  • Contributing to an effective working environment in the kitchen
  • Engaging with clients and contributing to a welcoming environment
Who will the volunteers be working with?
You will be volunteering in a team of 6 volunteers.
Training
Online Induction before you start volunteering, which includes introduction to homelessness, personal & professional boundaries and equality, diversity & inclusion
Training in Level One Food Safety & Hygiene
Kitchen specific induction on your first day

Time commitment

We are seeking individuals who can volunteer once a week or fortnight. There are two shift times but we are more in need of volunteers for the Breakfast shift.

Breakfast: 9.00am – 12.00pm, Monday – Friday
Lunch: 12.30pm – 3.30pm, Monday – Friday
