Join a Sports Club
We have over 70 sports clubs to choose from so there is an opportunity to try something completely new or hone your skills in a sport you’ve played for years. Head over to our clubs and society directory to find a sports team for you. Our sports clubs meet on a regular basis for training across London and within our own facilities.
- TeamUCL Sports Clubs
All of our sports clubs welcome students from beginners all the way up to elite athletes. Get involved with social training sessions or trial for our teams competing in British Universities & College Sport (BUCS) and London Universities Sports Leagues (LUSL) for the opportunity to represent TeamUCL on a weekly basis. Club activity also goes beyond the sporting environment with many getting involved with volunteering in their local community, fundraising for designated charities and organising regular social events. Get in contact with a sports club via their webpage (accessed through the club and society directory) or social media platforms.
Project Active
Project Active and Postgraduate Project Active are “no commitment, no judgement” physical activity programme that allow you to exercise in whatever way works for you! There is no pressure or stress, and all sessions are focused on enjoyment for beginners.
- Project Active Sessions
There are a number of social sport opportunities (including 5-aside football and dodgeball) and online and in-person classes (including dance, yoga, BoxHIIT and more!) available at very low cost (or free!). Postgraduate Project Active sessions are designed to work around the busy Postgrad schedule and provides a great opportunity to meet new people undertaking similar academic journeys.
TeamUCL Leagues
TeamUCL leagues launched last year and they provide all students with another opportunity to access some friendly but competitive sport. Our sports leagues are growing year on year and we plan to offer leagues in 11 aside football, 6 aside football, netball, and 3X3 basketball. This form of sport does not require you to be a member of a club. You can enter as a group of course mates, friends from halls or as a society for example. If you want to play some competitive sport, you’re in!
TeamUCL Elite Sport

Our elite athlete programme offers 3 levels of provision (Bronze, Silver and Gold). Our high performance programme is facilitating our ambition of being the best university for sport in London. It provides clubs with high quality strength & conditioning, physiotherapy and use of our performance facilities. This programme is available to clubs with aspirations and track records of achieving highly in BUCS competition.
Events & Campaigns
- London Varsity Series
TeamUCL are holders of the one of the oldest Varsity series in the UK. The UCL-KCL rivalry began nearly 200 years ago and both institutions battle it out every year to be crowned London varsity series champions. The series sees TeamUCL compete against Kings College London across a range of sports throughout the week. The victor is crowned after the final event of the series and a trophy is awarded to the institution that has won the greatest number of fixtures. Last year we triumphed in one of the closest series ever due to a 4-2 win from our Men’s football team in the last game of the series.
- The Mandy Walker Games
The Mandy Walker Games was created in honour of a former UCL hockey player and sports officer. It is coined as an Annual Alumni Sports Day where former members of UCL are invited back to London to compete in friendly matches against current TeamUCL clubs. Sport takes place across London and throughout the day before a social takes place after the Games. It’s a fantastic opportunity to catch up with old friends and reinforce the community atmosphere our sports clubs create.
- Pride In Sport Games
The Pride in Sport Games is a week’s worth of fixtures that coincides with Pride Week. Unfortunately the event has been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the vision is for clubs to compete against London based LGBTQ+ clubs in friendly fixtures over the course of the week. The Games hopes to be able to increase access and create partnerships between TeamUCL and the LGBTQ+ sporting community.
- Sports Ball
Sports Awards and Sports Ball sees us round off a successful year of sport. It is an opportunity for us to reflect on the previous year and commend the efforts of sports clubs and individuals on their outstanding achievements.
