If you’ve signed up to write your dissertation with the Community Research Initiative, then this event is a must! It’s our kick off event, where you’ll get the chance to connect with fellow students who have all decided to use community-research methods to write their dissertation.
Please note this workshop is for CRIS dissertation students only.
About the workshop
This lively session is designed to help you hit the ground running. Expect interactive icebreakers, group discussions, and plenty of opportunities to get to know fellow CRIS students who’ll be navigating the same research adventure as you.
We’ll explore:
- what it means to work with community partners
- talk openly about the uncertainties that come with real‑world research, and
- share practical strategies for how we can deal with these on your research journey.

- I can't make the date of this workshop, will it be recorded?
Unfortunately, due to the active nature of the workshop, we won't be recording. But if you can't make this date, make sure to check out all our other offers during the year. Our staff will be around all term to help you during your dissertation journey.
- What if I am nervous about coming alone?
If you're attending solo that is absolutely okay! This event is a great space to make friends and meet new and interesting students. And lots of your fellow CRIS dissertation students will be coming by themselves, so there's lots of chances for informal chats and connections.
If you're nervous about coming alone, we want to assure you that our team members will be there to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

No experience with networking events like this? No problem! That's what this workshop is for. We'll do everything we can to make it a fun, friendly, and inspiring event - trust us!
