St. John's Soup Kitchen and Food Bank
Church of England parish church, Soup Kitchen: Uniting the community through bringing together local volunteers to run a soup kitchen for the less fortunate in the area.
Description

We provide a homemade vegetarian meal for between 50-120 people per week, and demand has really been increasing due to the cost of living crisis. We are open twice a week to cook and provide guests with food parcels from our food bank.

We are very keen to recruit some new volunteers. Are you available to join us, even just once a month for a couple of hours? Your help would be so appreciated!

Duties

Duties include: cooking, filling food bank parcels, serving portions, taking guests' orders, and washing up. You can usually choose whatever role suits you best on the day!

Who will the volunteers be working with?
You'll be part of a fab team of volunteers, most of whom are young adults living or working in the area. We have a long history of UCL students volunteering with us. The Vicar, Alice, has overall responsibility, and as an alumnus of UCL, she's a bit biased...!
Training
When you come for your first shift ("induction"), you'll be shown how the Soup Kitchen and Food Bank operate. We have a very supportive network of fellow volunteers, who have plenty of experience and are always happy to help and answer any questions that you may have to help you settle in.

Time commitment

You can volunteer as often or as little as you like. It's up to you!

Our shifts are:
Sunday morning/lunchtime 10:30 - 14:30
Tuesday evening 17:00 - 20:30
Application deadline

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
