East London LGBT Seniors is a support group for over 55s identifying as LGBTQ, based in Stratford but attracting members from all over London.

We are looking for a small team of enthusiastic and proactive Student Ambassadors to support East London LGBT Seniors in its mission to engage local senior LGBTQ+ communities. 

As a Student Ambassador, you will act as a bridge between East London LGBT Seniors and your networks; helping us raise awareness, encourage participation, and strengthen our connection with local students and communities.

Duties

Responsibilities of Ambassadors include:

(Please note, these tasks can be split across several Ambassadors, dependent on availability, skills, experience and areas of interest)

  1. Outreach and representation

Being an ambassador for this organisation within Students Union UCL, to represent LGBT Seniors within our student body and networks. Raise awareness of this community and feed external needs into student conversations, working with EL LGBT Seniors to steer wider projects for UCL Networks within the LGBTQ+ community

Representing the organisation within the local community and promoting East London LGBT Seniors within local spaces, groups, and services.

  1. Support with communications

The group is under-resourced and lacking expertise in social media and web presence. Facebook page currently only has notices of upcoming meetings, but could be more interactive with comment and support, as well as images. The group are also in need of photos of their services, as well as an updated flyer for promoting their organisation.

  1. Support and involvement with programme delivery

Activity would include :

  • Getting to know the group at its meetings:
    • Wednesdays lunchtime meetings (12pm-2pm) happen 3 times a month in Stratford Advice Arcade
    • Wednesday evening meetings  (6:00pm to 8pm) happen once a month at Forest Tavern, Forest Gate. This would also be the opportunity to capture media and stories. For developing relationships with our community, there are some practical support tasks such as member records and serving refreshments
  • Outside of meetings liaising with Dr Bill Hopkinson – founder of East London LGBT Seniors
Who will the volunteers be working with?
- The group: we have 50 members in total, with around 15 members attending per meeting.
- The group leaders: Bill Hopkinson, Philip Kee
- A steering group of 7 people
- 2 other fellow student volunteers
Training
You'll receive an Induction session, including information about working with vulnerable adults

Time commitment

Timings outlined in responsibilities, it can be flexible between 3 volunteer Ambassadors
