- Events organisation: from planning academic and leadership events in high school to boat parties and fresher's events in UCL, I take the initiative to anticipate others' needs and create the best experience possible for everyone involved
- Ensure inclusivity and accessibility in societies by drawing on past experience of working closely with UCL Student Support and Wellbeing Services in a Changemakers project to evaluate disability services in Natural Sciences
- Problem solving: As a course rep, I've had experience raising issues, communicating them and finding solutions
Stepping into the salsa scene turned my life around (literally with all the double spins) and joining the society has given me something to look forward to every week. Being a newbie, I understand first hand the importance of creating a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment for members of all levels to dance in. Creating a safe space to learn and grow without judgement is key.
The same goes for learning a new skill or joining a new community in any society. I hope to make ensure all societies in UCL provide an accommodating and welcoming space for all, regardless of their background.
Societies breathe life into a day crammed with coursework and offer communities that make university life so much richer. Having worked as an Events Officer in Natural Sciences and Communications Officer now in Salsa Society has shown me the importance and impact societies have in creating welcome spaces for people to learn new skills, let loose and share their passion about a sport or art or subject with like-minded people.
Drawing from my experience in planning events and knowledge of accessibility needs and services at UCL, I am passionate about improving these spaces to include everyone.
- I am in my second year on the 'Sci-fi and Fantasy' committee, as events officer and (this year) president, I know the union’s abilities and processes well. I have actively engaged with multiple societies, organising many collaborative events.
- I have frequently engaged with arts societies, therefore am aware of their needs and understand the importance of cooperation within the union. I have worked as an assistant producer and a costume team member on multiple productions.
- I organised the NSN fair and worked with the NSN (niche society network) so am keyed into a range of societies’ needs.
- Represent societies needs to the union so that people don’t have to put too much effort into doing fun stuff, they can just do it!
- Fostering collaboration between societies so that resources can be pooled and society members can experience new hobbies.
- Increase societies' capacity to provide brilliant services to students, through funding and organisational support.
- Streamline union processes so that committee members can have an easier time running societies.
- Ensure that the policies voted upon align with student values, such as supporting Stonewall, and marginalised students overall.
- I have extensive experience within societies of multiple kinds.
- I represent the student body with progressive viewpoints (with the majority voting to support the strikes).
- I genuinely care about how the union governs, societies need to have a say!
- I believe the union (while sometimes great) could and should be better.
You are welcome to come and ask me more about my viewpoints and policies, I look forward to (hopefully) being your rep!
