Candidates

Eva Hita Sogorb
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

1) Try to make dinner start later and make breakfast start earlier. Many students cannot get back to Ifor on time for dinner, or are late to lectures in the morning because the earliest time they can have breakfast is 7:45am. We should be able to enjoy the catered facilities we are paying for, or get a proper packed dinner if we still can’t get there on time.

2) Make sure that all students are living in adequate conditions, and any problems are dealt with quickly.

3) Organise activities, competitions and events so that there is something for everyone to enjoy.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I am hard-working, responsible and organised, which I believe will help me in this role.

I am always happy to speak to anyone about any concerns, complaints or suggestions they might have, and I will try my best to get any issues sorted out quickly.

I am perseverant and I fight for the things I care about, a quality that is useful for this role as I believe it will take more than one try to get the accommodation managers to change some of the things we believe can be improved.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I listen to what everybody has to say; you might have realised that the things I said I hope to achieve reflect what lots of students have been suggesting for the past weeks.

I am committed to making Ifor a great place for students where everyone can have a good time and make friends.

Gulnara Darzemanova
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As a Hall Rep, I would like to achieve a higher involvement of postgraduate students in UCL halls life. By organizing social events I hope to form a supportive community, becoming a Home away from home. Let's celebrate Halloween and Christmas together!

Also, I would like to discuss with the hall staff possibility to organize sports activities (yoga, running) here in Camden, so we do not need to spend time commuting.

As some of us moved here with partners and families, it is important to make them feel as welcome as UCL students and have the same access to the provided facilities.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I have a great deal of party organisation experience from personal birthdays to huge weddings. Once I decorated a 5-metre Christmas tree overnight, and I am ready to repeat the deed this December :)

My friends describe me as a persistent person. I would like to use this part of me to help my neighbours communicate their concerns and complaints to the accommodation staff.

And I will bring my persuasion skills on board to negotiate the organization of sports activities here at our halls, to guarantee a fair amount of events to what Bloomsbury halls residents have.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

If I am elected, I will focus on the events for postgraduate students and make sure that postgrads' interests are not overlooked during events planning and budgeting.

I plan to organize more local activities here in Camden, so we spend less time commuting.

Sailesh Geddam
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to make the accommodations a place where everyone will look back on as one of the best times of their lives. I will strive to make it a safe, happy, and enjoyable environment for all tenants. My end goal is to not only look upon fellow tenants as neighbors but to view everyone as part of a community and be comfortable within each other's company. Also, and for those that I have yet to meet, I hope this role will lead me to meeting them and forging a new friendship with them.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I have an outgoing personality and connect well with the people in my halls and so far we are great friends. I spend time with a lot of them frequently and even offer my continuous support in helping them fix a problem that they might be dealing with. I also frequently organize various activities that can be done throughout the week so everyone in the accommodations has something fun to do and I shall see to it that I set it up during a time where the majority can attend. Even in the past, I have experience working with budgets among other applications that will aid me in my endeavors.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Everyone in my accommodation is my friend and if I become hall rep I will make sure I will use every bit of my power to make time in the dorms enjoyable and a core memory for everyone. I will use my resources to make our accommodations a better place to live and initiate activities and events where we can all bond with each other more. However, most importantly I will ensure that everyone is treated fairly and everyone's voice shall be heard no matter what. I already know quite a good number of my peers in the accommodation and I hope as a hall rep, I'll be able to meet more wonderful people!

Harlynn Homan
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to be able to represent all the members in my hall fairly, and make their time here comfortable. Given the current situation in the country, planning for the months ahead is vital. If given the chance to be a part of this body, I hope to be able to help plan and execute actions that will help benefit the current and future residents of the hall.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Over the last three years, I have been able to run two ships at the same time fairly well.

At work, I have been a Project Manager, and so have been able to solve problems fairly easily on a daily basis, and helped my team sail comfortably through all their personal and professional problems. I am one who likes things to be on time and in a neat order, and I will bring these skills to this role.

I have also taken care of the well-being of all the members in my family (mind you, there are 8 of them). I think my clam demeanour helps me organise others thoughts and feelings. I hope I can use this to represent the members in the halls.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I believe the place where one rests every night should be the place where one finds solace. I hope I am able to help create this environment for everyone. Being prompt, organised and empathetic are my strengths, and I hope these are qualities that you are looking for in your rep.

  • I am an effective team player with a determination to meet and exceed all assigned goals and objectives.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

This year will be hectic, but we'll keep it light. Please vote if you can!

Divya Karwa
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Living in a hall, away from the comforts of your house could be daunting and a new experience. But having a helping hand would always make your perspective positive. What I want to achieve from this position is not something for myself but for you guys. I want to be a rep who could help you to live peacefully in this hall. I want to create a mechanism for faster problem solving, and easier manner to get your issues heard as well. I would also love to work on getting our hall socialise more often, so that we could come together as a group and celebrate our lives here in London!

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I can bring my promptness and punctuality to the role to help with your problem solving. I would like to use the 10 percent extroverted nature in my 90 percent introvert life to bring us all together. I have very little experience with students, but I have professional experience of working in offices and college to manage and help in providing better and efficient service.

I love being a team worker, I would to lead you all into a better year. I only hope that with whatever experience or skill I have, I could do something better for you.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Edward S Khoury
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I'm simply looking to help those who arrive at this accommodation have a smoother transition into an entirely new environment.

Within the first month I made a petition and have already pushed for access to the heaters; of which is in the works. This level of action is a norm for me. Next is to finally resolve this insane rodent problem many are having.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I have experience as president of my undergraduate architectural organization in the US. I can discuss difficult matters without raising pitchforks; and have a tendency to stand up against nonsense.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

My actions regarding the petition were done before I even knew there was a representative role. Now I'm realizing I can speak for you all with a stronger title; something that will help me make changes easier.

Coco Mu
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Being the hall representative means taking on the responsibility to listen to the fellow student’s voice, and fulfill to the best of my ability all request.

I wish to use my position as the student representative to help make the accommodation experience better. With the experience of being an international student for more than 4 years, I truly understand the struggles and difficulties that will appear when studying in a foreign country. I will always be available to talk to, and hopefully help them with their struggles.

I really wish everyone could maximize their experience studying abroad

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

The greatest incentive of becoming a rep is to help the student to overcome the unusualness of settling in a new environment. With a great proportion of the student body coming from China, I believe this gives me the advantage to communicate with them and fully understand their needs, being a Chinese speaker myself. Having the experience as a boarding school prefect makes me understand the role and responsibilities, representing the hall. Moreover, I am easy to talk to and very out going, so I believe everyone would be able to approach me if they have any problems or concerns to raise.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I will thrive to make your experience at this accommodation to its maximum capacity. This means organizing social events, improving facilities and catering services, or just simply becoming friends!

Vote for me, and we will work together as a community to achieve the best first year UCL university life!

Na Sun

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

From student, work with students

Casey Liu
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

The role is a great opportunity to improve myself in my communication skills, organizational and managerial capabilities. I will also learn how to become a more considerate person. Also, the commitment of helping peers is extremely appreciated by me. I would always be lit up when cheering up others.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I am good at communicating with others. If I would be selected by the role, I will unite all students in the hall and help them build a desirable bond between other students, the university and themselves. I am a good listener and observer. I will understand students’ thoughts regarding the hall and try my best to make the hall a more comfortable place to live. I will come up with various interesting activities for the hall using my endless creativity.  Lastly, always being energetic and ready to cheer people up, I will bring vigour and joy to the hall as well as my fellow colleagues.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

First, I like my hall very much!! I meet so many friends here and am living a colourful life. And I have motivation to make it an enjoyable place for all students.

I am always willing to listen others and considerate their needs. I am good at connecting people. I am creative and always come up with various idea, so vote for me if you would like to have different activities next year.

As an international student, I know how hard life can be when entering an entire new place having no friends at all, and I really want to help them with it as well as other anxiety about university life.

Khushi Handa
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Living as a Hall Rep comes with a share of responsibilities and duties. There might be issues that many of us face but not feel comfortable sharing with higher-ups directly. This is where the work of a Hall Rep begins.

Relieving some of the burden for those living at UCL halls by being their voice and sharing problems to the authorities is crucial.

I hope to work in a way that all of us at 109, Camden Road feel like they're at home even though they're away from home. It's easier to share problems with a peer, and I love making lists for that, so it's an added bonus!

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

The most important quality for being a good representative is the ability to empathize with people and make their issues your own. This is what I aim to do, even for the smallest of problems.

I feel that I can appropriately assess situations and take valuable feedback from my peers, and being on the same side as them is already a good start.

Moreover, not hesitating while voicing the opinions of a group is something that stands out. I feel that I am well-equipped to do this. You know you can always count on me for sorting things out.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

It is only natural to feel comfortable when someone is genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say.

Given that, I would not mind having a storm of messages on WhatsApp with everyone sharing things bothering them. If not, a call works too.

I have had the chance to handle roles like these in the past, and I believe that experience counts. This gave me the confidence to nominate myself for a similar role this year as well.

Also, like interacting with people and bonding over food and sarcasm. So if you have anything to complain or talk about, I'm all ears!

Chunyuan Liu
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected I would aim to:

-Object 1 Collect and report residents' problems and make sure they can be properly handled (e.g. the mice problem in Max that's been troubling students for a long time.)

-Object 2 Hold more different social events and offer residents the opportunity to make friends and get to know each other.

-Object 3 Bring diversity to the hall, respect different cultures and hold activities that can make international students feel more like home.(e.g. for Chinese students, one of the activities can be in the form of making dumplings during the Spring Festival.)

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I have experience in leading a student's society and have developed the skill of effectively communicate with both the students and teachers, which can be applied to this position.

Being a leader, I also acquired the experience in organizing activities and events, which can be of help in coming up with new ideas of the forms of activities.

Also, as an international student, I understand the stress and difficulties which many of us may be dealing with right now. And I have plenty of time to listen to your problems and stories to help you with your life and study.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Thank you for reading my manifesto and feel free to get in touch with me. If you have any questions about my ideas, please contact me at email [email protected] or wechat ID lcy_hedy.
