Medieval Society

Want to learn more about the past or maybe even experience a bit of it yourself? Medieval Society is for you!

This year, we're reshaping how the society runs its events. Rather than formal lectures, our flagship sessions are informal, seminar-style gatherings: food, drinks, and a historian speaking candidly about the research that genuinely excites them. We deliberately keep numbers small, for more fun, real conversations.

And that's not all: get ready for fun collaborations with other societies, costume parties, film nights, and museum visits!

We're also committed to expanding what "medieval" means to our members. The Middle Ages weren't just Western Europe: they were the Islamic world, the Silk Roads, South Asia, and a genuinely global set of overlapping societies. We want our society to be as diverse as UCL is :) Given our uni's large and vibrant community, we're especially keen to bring in speakers whose work connects directly to that history, so that more of our members can see their own histories and identities reflected in what we study.
