Whether you have been learning and performing for years, or simply enjoy listening and want to explore it further, the Indian Music Society aims to create a welcoming space for anyone with an interest in Indian music. Our purpose is to celebrate the diversity of Indian musical traditions, from classical to contemporary, and to bring together like-minded people who share a passion for this rich art form. We will provide opportunities to learn, perform, and connect, while fostering appreciation and a community around Indian music.

You can look forward to:

  • Weekly Band Sessions: Come along to our weekly band sessions where we will explore different Indian music genres and themes through new pieces each week. We will be exploring  classical, contemporary, folk and lots more.  This open to people of all abilities and welcomes both vocalists and instrumentalists.
  • Monthly open mic nights:  If you're interested in performing in a laid back setting, our open mics are for you. This is the first regular open mic session focussed on Indian music. It doesn't matter if you are seasoned performer or have just started music and want an opportunity to perform, this is a welcoming space for everyone
  • Monthly classical workshops: We will have monthly classical workshops focusing on both Hindustaani and Carnatic styles
  • Collaboration workshops: We are excited to be hosting some extra workshops, so please keep a look out for these exciting opportunities

Intro to Indian Classical Music

This introduction to Indian Classical music explores the basics of Hindustani and Carnatic music. We will be learning about the notes, raagas, taalas (rhythms) and learning a short piece in each style.

If you’re interested in classical music or want to try something new, please come along!
