Avanish Tiwari

Having completed 3 years of Medical School, I have experienced first hand the importance of RUMS to a Medic's university experience. I have enjoyed numerous RUMS events, with halfway ball and freshers fortnight being the highlights. I have also been a key member of RUMSCC since joining UCL. I will be a great Gen Sec because of my experience:

  • Of being Gen Sec of RUMSCC. This year I was responsible for sending out a weekly email to over 400 CC alumni. I had to ensure they included a summary of the week whilst also making sure they had humour, whilst being professional. With one of the roles of RUMS Gen Sec being to send a monthly email, I know that my experience as RUMSCC Gen Sec will ensure I burgeon in this aspect of the role.
  • Of working in a team, through my involvement in RUMSCC. Teamwork is vital in being part of a strong committee, and through captaining RUMSCC's indoor team in games against UCLCC, whilst also captaining an indoor team in an intraclub weekly tournament, I know that my leadership qualities as well as my cohesion with teammates will make me an asset to the RUMS committee.
  • In mentoring. This year I have been Community Outreach Vice President of the British Bengali Medical Association (BBMA), with one of my key roles being running tutorials. The academic side of RUMS is paramount to its success, and as Gen Sec I hope I can liaise with the academic VPs to further improve teaching and tutorials.

As Gen Sec I will ensure RUMS reaches its full potential!

Nimesha Mediwaka

Hi, I’m Nimi, and I would love for the opportunity to give back to the RUMS community through the role of Gen Sec. Through this position, I want to mediate between you and the RUMS committee, and will strive to provide you with the utmost support and clarity on all things RUMS and UCLMS through various platforms.

If elected, I pledge to:

  • Collaborate with committee to revamp the RUMS social media pages and monthly bulletin to better signpost resources and opportunities
  • Work to boost engagement with the RUMS website and social media posts, so you get the information and support you need
  • Mediate and maintain the feedback loop to give the RUMS community better transparency of committee meetings, through updates on the group chats or summaries of discussions through the newsletter
  • Continue to collect your feedback, so you can share your thoughts and concerns which committee can address to improve the RUMS experience
  • Maintain the high quality work of Abi and Mathura, our previous Gen Secs :)

My experience on the RUMS events subcommittee over the past year and a half has left me well equipped to manage the administrative demands of Gen Sec, including tackling the monthly bulletin. I’ve demonstrated my commitment to RUMS through helping at freshers events, the RUMS merch drop and presenting the committee hinge slides in Take Me Out this year. Most of all, I want to be a friendly face, someone that you can count on for support during your time in medical school!
