Hello, I am Olivia, a year 2 Psychology with Education student running for treasurer. Having worked in props and costumes for a few shows, I have gained experience in working with spreadsheets and keeping budgets in check. To ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of our society, I recognize the importance to maintain detailed budgets that align with our goals and priorities, ensuring that every penny is allocated wisely and responsibly. My past internship at an entrepreneurship incubation centre has also equipped me with administrative skills, including mastering Excel, which comes in handy for the job of treasurer.
In addition to maintaining budget, I believe that it would be helpful to explore opportunities for sponsorship, fundraising to support our activities if possible. I will also ensure transparency by providing regular and comprehensive financial reports to the society. If this is not possible, I am happy to answer any questions related to the financial situation of the society for building trust and open communication between members and the committee.
I understand that there are some aspects of the treasurer role that I may not be familiar with, but I am eager to learn and ready to roll up my sleeves. I am confident that we can build a solid financial foundation that supports the artistry and creativity of our society. Thank you for considering me for this role!
MT Society has been a highlight of my 1st year at UCL. From performing in Blooms to soon performing as a clock (yes, an actual clock) in Beauty and the Beast, there's so much I've enjoyed about being part of this society. I really want to offer the freshers next year, and continuing members, a range of workshops to develop new skills as well as foster the fantastic talent we already have within this society.
Here are a few of my ideas!!
Cross-society Collabs:
- Working with ArtsUCL Societies to:
- Introduce new approaches to acting.
- Try alternative dance styles.
- Developing new skills whilst offering opportunities to meet other people within ArtsUCL, expanding our MT community.
Theatre Visits!
- Reaching out to nearby venues and discuss potential opportunities for members to visit.
Regular Training Opportunities:
- Developing production skills: Core prod (Directing, MD-ing, Choreographing), but technical ones too (e.g. Costume Design).
- Collaborating with MT industry professionals -- offering insight into the life of a working professional.
A workshop I have in mind, in particular, is one geared towards helping those who want to move onto drama school post-grad. Bringing in a range of both industry and alumni professionals to explain the processes and options they have will be invaluable.
These are just a few of the ideas I have now; and if elected, I'd love to hear any and all suggestions!
