Carla Rodrigues

Hello, fellow performers and enthusiasts! My name is Carla, and I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Vice President of the Musical Theatre Society. With a passion for performance, a track record of leadership, and a commitment to excellence, I am ready to lead our society to new heights.

Why Vote for Me:
Experience in Musical Theatre (5 years): As someone who has dedicated five years to the art of musical theatre, I understand the intricacies of performance, the power of collaboration, and the importance of stage presence. My experience on stage has equipped me with the skills needed to support and guide our society members towards their own success.

Balancing Act: Balancing my passion for musical theatre with my academic pursuits has taught me discipline, time management, and the importance of prioritization. I know firsthand the challenges that students face in juggling their passions with their studies, and I am committed to creating a supportive environment that fosters both artistic growth and academic success.

Leadership Experience as Head Girl: Serving as Head Girl of my school has honed my leadership abilities, teaching me how to listen, collaborate, and inspire others. I believe in inclusivity, transparency, and amplifying the voices of all members within our society.

Event Management Expertise (2 years): My two years of experience in running events, including those related to pole dancing, have equipped me with organizational skills, creativity, and adaptability. I am ready to bring fresh ideas and

Oliver Sykes

Having been fresher's rep, and having participated in 2 galas, 2 small shows and 2 Blooms shows, plus another small show this term, MT has helped me grow as an artist and as a person. Now, entering my final year, I want to give that same opportunity to others. From my extensive participation across the society, I have an in-depth understanding of how MT soc functions. I wish to take this knowledge and use it to help MT soc grow. Furthermore, having been on my 6th form union, written and directed my own play, and organised a charity event in term 1 which raised over £1600, I know how to work with and bring out the best in people.

As vice-president, I would:

  • Support the president in whatever capacities she may need
  • Continue this year’s committee's work, expanding upon initiatives such as the MT buddy system
  • I would help place an even larger emphasis on creativity & originality within the society, and propose to run a workshop with Live Music Society to develop a new musical which would be performed as a small show in the same vein as See it, Say it, Sorted, which would be a collaborative creative process by cast and band together.
  • I would expand what MT goes to see, buying a smaller amount of group tickets for nicher shows alongside continuing larger trips to watch prime West End performances, hence enriching members’ understanding of Musical Theatre as a whole.
  • I’d also to have more open, whole society meetings where people in the society can voice their opinions
Olivia Pan

Hello fellow MT people! I’m Olivia and I am running for multiple positions because I am so ready to contribute to this vibrant society, also, not to keep my eggs in one basket…

For me, the magic of MT lies in its flexibility. It can be goofy and absurd, yet it can also delve into depths of darkness, stirring up your emotions and thoughts. This versatility mirrors my personality and approach to life. As a flexible person, I thrive in situations requiring quick adjustments and switching between tasks with creativity that allows me to find innovative solutions to challenges. These qualities make me well-suited for the role of Vice President, given its wide spread of responsibilities.

As someone who is not strong with performance, I have noticed that our MT society tends to lean heavily on shows and competition, which can be exciting. But we can do more to represent our diverse membership. If I am selected, I intend to create a more inclusive environment by increasing:

- Non-auditioned performing opportunities like karaoke and Open Mic Nights, 24-hour musicals, or even flash mobs at random places on campus

- Social events like pub quizzes, musical movie nights with post-discussions, dressed-up theme parties and sing-alongs.

-Workshops and masterclasses for production aspects including producing, costume and set design etc.

-Collaborative activities with the Stage Crew Society and Makeup Society for enhancing technical production skills.

-Accessibility of the bidding process so people can present ideas and team up with new

Over the past year, UCLMT has brought me nothing but joy. I can’t wait to give back to the community & I would love to serve as your first vice president.

As Dance captain in Chess, Kenickie in the Fresher’s musical, & being in Beauty and the Beast, I have met the most wonderful people. I want to create more low pressure, low commitment socials for people to find more friends and connect with similar people. I will also continue to push for more non-auditioned opportunities such as MT choir & band so that more members can access opportunities within UCLMT. I will also try to increase the number of theatre trips, so our members have an excuse to fully enjoy what London has to offer.

Additionally, as choreographer of Carrie I have experience in submitting a bid & I understand the process of producing a show. Going forward I hope to help aspiring creatives to find people they want to work with more efficiently & streamline the bidding process by holding a gathering for future prod team members before bids close.

Finally, I know a lot of our members are great singers and actors, but the other equally important aspect of being a musical theatre performer is DANCE! I hope to work with more societies to bring more dance workshops to UCLMT so everyone can have a chance to hone their skills & no longer be afraid of dance breaks in shows.

UCLMT is my one true passion & I will commit 150% to the role if elected! I can’t wait to work with you all next year!

Ronan Venkat

Hi, I’m Ronan and I’m running to be your Vice President next year!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Musical Theatre Society and want to continue improving the musical theatre experience for everyone next year. I worked on the production team and band for six shows this year, including as the musical director for the term 1 and 2 small shows, Lift and Carrie. I have extensive experience leading ensembles and planning rehearsals, and I plan to apply this same dedication as Vice President.

As VP, I would concentrate on three main points:

  1. Accessibility to new members: I plan to continue the new member activities at the beginning of the year, particularly the buddy system and the freshers’ musical. These events were how I got involved with MT and were some of my favorite memories from this year. I also plan to support non-auditioned events throughout the year, like the term 2 gala, to allow new members to get involved.
  2. Bid accessibility: I aim to make it accessible and welcoming for members to bid shows for the society, by organising consistent forums/consultations for members to learn about the bid process and meet others interested in bidding.
  3. Tech/equipment: As a musical director for several shows at UCL, I have an in-depth knowledge of the society’s technical and band equipment and what the society needs. I plan to acquire and maintain equipment inventory for MT events and ensure the society has what it needs to thrive.
