Hiii everyone!

For the past year spent getting my degree in Arts UCL (literally), I loved working in the Drama community with many immensely talented and dedicated people who have now become my dear friends, and I wish for everyone in our community to continue pursuing their creative endeavours at UCL. From festival pieces to term shows and blooms, I think all shows should be a safe environment for people to express themselves. As the Welfare Officer, I promise to help ensure that every Drama space at UCL is a place where people are free to reach out in case of any issue, no matter the size. I will always be open to conversations or messages if anyone has any concerns about their working conditions or even outside production.

Having worked on a few shows across the theatre societies of UCL from both production and acting sides this year, I, first-hand experienced the stress that arises during the processes of auditions, concurrent shows and juggling academics all at once, and I hope that everyone feels free that they can reach out in the case of stress or any other problems at any moment without judgement. With this, my hope is to facilitate professional Welfare communications with the Student's Union regarding safety issues of the members, and conveying urgent matters in due time.

Furthermore, as the Welfare Officer of UCL Drama, I hope to make all new members feel welcome and facilitate their immersion within the theatre spaces of UCL, making it accessible and open to people of all backgrounds and experiences in Drama.

Ava Potter

Hey! I’m Ava and I’d love to be this years Welfare Officer! I’ve been a part of Drama Society since the moment I joined UCL and have been Workshops Officer for the past 2 years. I’d now love to support the society in other ways. Through acting I understand the strains that drama can bring, but also what a release it can be, and an escape, especially from the stress of university.

If elected I’ll host bi-weekly welfare sessions, carrying on from the lovely Ashley, as well as a feedback mechanism in the society as a way to understand what members want and how to increase accessibility to the society. I’m most looking forward to working alongside shows to ensure all cast and crew feel supported, and again put mechanisms in place for shows to recieve intimacy training, so each actor understands their agency in shows. I have National Youth Theatre Facilitation training which taught me how to deal with welfare issues in Drama contexts and how to create inclusive, non-judgemental playing spaces so everyone can do their best work. I’m a happy, people person so I feel I’d be great for this position!

I’d really appreciate your vote to be welfare officer this year! Thank you!

Mayukh Das

Hello everyone! I'm your friendly chemist, Mayukh! Currently a 2nd year (soon to be 3rd hopefully) Chemistry student, and a dedicated member who has been passionately involved in drama from my high school days, I am excited to put forth my candidacy for the Welfare Officer in our Drama Society!!! My previous roles as a Transition Mentor, Student Ambassador, and Outreach Ambassador of our Faculty, have equipped me with a unique understanding of the needs and challenges within diverse environments.

If elected, I promise to:

Provide Personalized Support: I will be the first point of contact for all welfare concerns. Drawing from my extensive experience, I understand the pressures of performance and rehearsal and will be there to support everyone's mental and emotional well-being.

Efficient and Empathetic Management: Leveraging my background in drama and organizational roles, I will streamline auditions and rehearsals to maximize efficiency while ensuring they are conducted with the utmost care for participant welfare.

Open Communication: I am committed to enhancing our society’s culture of support and open communication, ensuring that it is a place where everyone feels secure, respected, and part of a vibrant community.

I am dedicated to making our Drama Society a place where everyone feels valued, safe, and excited to contribute!
