Hi, I’m Becky, I’m a first year History student and member of the Senior Women’s squad. I was a coastal rower before coming to university, so this year has been a big adjustment! This, and an injury early in the year, has meant I know very closely how inclusion is so important to members both in and outside of training.
Previous leadership experience includes Junior Captain at my home rowing club, School Prefect, House Captain and Anti-Bullying Ambassador.
I’d like to build on UCLBC’s current initiatives and promote new ideas to foster an even greater sense of community right from the start of the year.
Inclusivity:
- More integration socials early in the year for individual squads and for the club as a whole
- Consistent integration activities between novices and seniors, and men’s and women’s squads
- More non-alcoholic socials
- Support in travelling to water sessions for anyone who feels unsure
- Clearer signposting for financial support/advice and a potential second-hand kit shop to help reduce the financial barriers people may have
Outreach:
- Outreach - more frequent volunteering and fundraising across the year, taking new (hopefully fun!) suggestions for activities
- Sustainability - expand our focus to sustainability causes, particularly the quality of our waterways, a serious issue for rowers. Consistent fundraising and support for charities such as The Rivers Trust and River Action UK, including river clean ups, rowathons, sponsored run/bike challenges and bake sales
