My experience in the Art Business Society has been a positive one: from visits to auction houses to art exhibitions, it has solidified my decision to be more involved in the society through being part of the organising committee. Being a Treasurer will allow me to gain further insight into the art world by providing a different perspective through being behind the scenes. I understand that being a Treasurer would not only mean that I would have to manage the budget but also participate in event planning. For that, I would propose exciting new opportunities like collaborations with other societies, industry leaders in high fashion, and even society-wide overseas trips.
I have various experiences in organising events and managing budgets, particularly the Model UN conference in my high school with over 300 participants. As the Deputy Secretary-General, I oversaw the creation of the conference schedule, planned engaging activities for delegates and liaised with guest speakers. Along with my responsibilities, I also helped to manage logistical matters like merchandise, finding sponsors, pricing tickets and ensuring the budget is fiscally balanced.
Hi! My name is Lauren and I'm currently a second-year BA History of Art student from Hong Kong, and am very interested in being the Art Business Society's Treasurer next year.
If elected, I aim to elevate our society's initiatives and standing within UCL. In my previous role as the History of Art Society's Welfare Officer, I coordinated events like the Frans Hals Exhibition, the Embroidery Art talk, and the Chinese Ceramics Talk. I plan to continue these social yet informative events for our members.
While our society already has an excellent lineup of industry professional talks, I aim to integrate more commercial art industry career opportunities. This could potentially be career fairs, workshops, and other networking events. These initiatives would not only help you build a strong foundation of networks but also provide opportunities to meet and seek advice from professionals. This is significant as I understand that many students, like myself, seek a foundation that acts as a stepping stone into the art business world.
For promotion, I propose utilising our Instagram platform to inform members about exhibitions and events, share success stories of professionals and practices, and conduct interviews with industry experts. This approach would enhance engagement with both our members and a broader audience.
Thank you for your consideration, I am excited about the prospect to be joining the committee next year!
Hello, my name is Lilly and I am excited to run for Treasurer. Attending exhibitions to learn about NFTs and how technology is infused with art has motivated me to bring attention to these emerging spaces for other students.
Leading society financial affairs with transparency, I would like to introduce a monthly financial report which will succinctly communicate the up-to-date accounting records, timely payment of invoices and outcome of bids for additional funding. This will include an extensive examination of forecasting future monthly expenditures as part of the overall annual budget, providing clarity for other divisions and the President.
I seek to voice and amplify members' suggestions on what events they'd like to have more of and maximise the budget that benefits them. By working in tandem with the President and Events Officer, this helps to fund further income from events and sponsorships to elevate the Society's potential.
Previously, as the Head of the Charity Ball Committee, I developed financial acumen by producing a project proposal and negotiating a discount on these items in order to maximise charity donations. I also managed the payment of invoices and sought reimbursement from the school’s administration team. As a former UCL M&A research analyst, I developed quantitative skills to inform my thoughts on transactions by learning and understanding accounting and valuation techniques.
