As a recent arrival to the world of Uni Snowsports I’ve witnessed not only the society’s uniquely inclusive nature, but also its spirit of fun. Unlike my embarrassing record as a participant in coach games, I would prove myself to be a good social secretary as someone always down for a good time and available for a friendly chat. Whilst I love the opportunity to cut some shapes on the dancefloor, I also have a great listening ear and would love to be a friendly face to turn to with any welfare issues, alongside contributing to the social elements of the club. Holding joint socials with other societies and planning bigger events such as pub quizzes and crawls, karaoke nights and DJ sets would be something I’d push for, whilst planning more wholesome settings like team meals and family events. I’d also be interested in looking to holding welfare related events like yoga and meditation sessions for example, creating a fortnightly what’s on calendar to put on our social media and emphasising charity and fundraising. It will be vital to utilise the period after ski trip to welcome members who haven’t yet dipped their toe in to the society and being a fresher myself I have a unique perspective to relate to new members, promoting the society whilst just being someone to go to with concerns. As a first-year humanities student I don’t have a lot of contact hours so have a lot of time to dedicate to the role and it may in fact save me from being bored out of my mind with my degree :)
