If re-elected as Media Rep, I will ensure the following policies are delivered. Many build on my work from last year and aim to enhance the visibility and support of student media at UCL.
- Increased funding for printing services through clear access routes for all student publications
- Masterclasses on writing successful Student Publication Award nominations
- External speaker and social events for all student media, with diverse, representative guests
- Strengthen the presence of student media on campus through expanded media drop bins in SU cafes and bars
- Media passes for arts & varsity events
I have a wealth of experience in student media at UCL. As Media Rep in 24/25, I oversaw the expansion of student media representation within SU discourse and on campus. I also created and passed the IPSO student media compliance policy, ensuring publication output remains compliant and consistent.
I also served as an Editor at The Cheese Grater for 3 years, writing on a range of topics. Last year, I oversaw the publication’s most successful run in over a decade, bringing student journalism back to the forefront of campus life through cutting-edge, student-focused (and award-winning) reporting
In short, my time at UCL has been defined by student journalism. It has been my personal highlight of university life. Indeed, beyond my experience in media-related roles, my greatest asset is the passion, care, and commitment I have for student journalism at our university. I believe student journalism is essential to a vibrant student life, and I’m committed to ensuring it remains a core part of the SU’s vision and priorities. If elected, I will ensure that no publication is left behind, and that we all can flourish in our diversity, making UCL’s student life brighter for all.
I would aim to connect UCL’s diverse media outlets and showcase them in a fresh, relevant way that amplifies student voices. I want to foster collaboration, inclusivity, and creativity across UCL's media platforms, highlighting the importance of media in building community and representation. It is also important to me to be a liaison that has a genuine passion and interest for the UCL Media Team. With experience in digital strategy, Communications, and podcasting, I want to bring something new to the UCL Societies Reps, and make UCL’s media more connected to our contemporary political sphere.
My experience spans Instagram, Substack, and Canva, with knowledge of TikTok, X, and YouTube. I have been appointed Head of Communications for the Aga Khan Youth & Sports Board’s 7–17 portfolio, creating narrative reels (one reaching 220K views) and hosting a podcast on Shia Ismaili history. My work promotes diversity, equality, and global community growth, achieving an 8K follower increase in a year. I was Head of House Captains at school, where I managed a team of 24 people, and I am in the process of launching my own political blog, with aspirations to enter into the Journalism industry.
We are living in an unprecedented era of media, but it is truth that stands the test of time. Combining my digital experience and skillset with my creativity and my immense passion for media, I am a well-suited candidate to ensure truth remains at the forefront of UCL media. As a strong believer in the power of media to convince and persuade all generations, to act not as an echo chamber, but as a medium of diverse expression, allowing humanity to find their voice and their community, I want to bridge students and media like never before at UCL, and I believe I can do so in this role.
As the Student Media Representative, I aim to:
- Create clearer guidance surrounding funding – ensuring all publications can thrive.
- Introductions to the wider media relations team for all media societies, making it clear that all publications are welcome.
- Provide training and speaker sessions to enhance the quality of media at UCL.
- Greater press access and dedicated time for media scrutiny outside of the zones, ensuring that every publication can hold the Union accountable.
- Actually deliver, support and include media societies in the lead-up to UCL's bicentenary.
- Having served in multiple roles at Kinesis and Pi Media, I have become the "grandfather" of student media. I have worked with union officials to improve grant funding, provide software licences, and equipment access for all our amazing publications.
- I know what it takes to rebuild, deliver and achieve results for publications of all sizes at UCL. Whether this was providing opportunities for the aspiring amazing journalists that Kinesis has helped foster or keeping opportunities available, requiring minor miracles to ensure our community can still have the events it thoroughly deserves.
- I have six years of experience writing, editing, leading and advocating for student media at UCL. I have no intention for my seventh to be any different or to let down the community I am proud to be a part of.
- We are the beating heart that unites arts, writing and the pursuit of knowledge and truth. We need to work on ensuring that student media remains both accountable to its members and holds our reps, sabs, staff and community to account.
- I want a student media for all, not the few. Let's deliver one that works, delivers and includes all in conversations about our future.
