Given the size of the Students’ Union, and it’s importance to student life at UCL, I believe having a clear and honest dialogue between SU leadership and students is imperative.
As a trustee, I would advocate for student views, and ensure real progress is made in the areas that matter to you, from the affordability of clubs & societies, to easier access to welfare support on campus.
If elected, I would ensure that the SU's finances are ran properly, with our voices at the centre of decision-making, such that its budget and influence fully supports and enriches our time at UCL.
Having been treasurer of the Boat Club over the last year, I’ve seen the challenges facing students accessing Students’ Union activities, and been well-acquainted with the SU bureaucracy.
In doing so, I’ve balanced limited budgets with providing a compelling experience for club members, and been disappointed with the delays and limitations of the SU’s current affordability scheme – the Participation Fund.
I’ve worked closely with some incredible people, and would bring the same open communication and diligence as a trustee, collaborating with my fellow trustees in our oversight of the SU.
As trustee, I would strive to make a difference for students at UCL.I am passionate about widening access to SU programs, and improving its support for all students. I am familiar with the SU’s organisation, and keen to make an impact.
I recognise that being elected as an SU trustee represents a significant responsibility; to ensure financial stability, proper organisation, and democratic accountability. I am ready to dedicate my time to this role, and confident I have the experience to do it justice.
In the role of student representative, I aimed to be a proactive advocate for the needs and concerns of my fellows. My main goal is to ensure that all students' voices are heard, and I would work to establish better communication between students and the school for a more transparent dialogue. In addition, as a student in education and psychology, I highly emphasize the importance of mental well-being, so I will focus on promoting initiatives such as free student mental support, and strive to foster an inclusive and diverse community where everyone believes that their words are valued.
I have mixed experiences, skills, and qualities that will help me to be an eligible student representative. At my sixth form school, I gained leadership experience as a House Prefect and School Prefect, where I was honored with the Headmaster’s Prefect Award. Since then, I have represented students as an academic representative at UCL and gained diverse skills through internships. My involvement in the New Era (Feminism) and Anti-Racism societies at Ardingly College highlight my dedication to inclusivity. Volunteering at a school for deaf children in Kenya for 8-weeks also developed my adaptability and empathy, all of which position me well to contribute as a trustee.
You should vote for me because I have a strong track record of leadership, advocacy, and inclusivity. From my sixth form experience as an Integration Prefect to my role as an academic representative at UCL, I always try my best to prioritise the needs of others. I bring practical skills from internships and a deep commitment to ensuring that all students' voices are heard. With a balanced approach and passion for making positive change, I am ready to help shape a Union that truly serves and supports every student at UCL.
Union Politics is broken - Lets bring accountablity back to the trustee board
I will:
🚫Oppose UCL union banking with Barclays - Barclays' record on human rights means we must cut ties.
🗳️Push for an NUS referendum - We waste over £20k a year on membership - Lets spend that money on our societies and student welfare instead.
🏢Support plans for a Student's Union Building - If done right, this would transform student life at UCL - Lets work together to get this across the line.
⚖️ Hold the leadership team to account - Sabb officers should listen to students all year not just during elections.
• Last year I sat on activities zone where I was met with an activities & engagement officer who did minimal work and faced no consequences. I want to help make sure that the SU is governed competently, not by rule-breaking grifters💼
• I also passed a policy last year - I had to jump through various hoops to even get it voted on. I have fought SU bureaucracy before and I'll do it again🥊
• As an NUS rep I saw first hand how we spend our money - I was told to vote for reforms despite widespread concerns about the fineprint. If this is what student democracy is I dont want to be part of it🏃🚪
Most of us dont understand student politics so let me be straight with you - As a singular trustee board member theres very little that I can do in terms of forcing change (there are 9+ other trustees who can easily overrule me).
But what I can promise is to be a voice of reason in trustee board meetings - challenging and questioning decisions rather than blindly following Student union groupthink.
Vote SETH to hold our officers to account!
🚨DONT FORGET TO USE YOUR 2ND PREFERENCE🚨 - we are electing 2 trustees in this election so it really does make a difference!
I hope to help the Union make sensible financial and legal decisions from the perspective of a 1st year.
I hope to achieve an understanding of how large charities such as this work.
I hope to help out, however and as much as I can.
I'd like to be part of something big,
no, bigger than that.
A bit bigger.
Yes. That Big.
The role of Student Trustee is for me.
I'd like to see just how much I can do.
I'd like to see just how much I am capable of.
I'd like to do my best, my very best.
It would be a real achievement to be such an important part of UCL.
I am a communicative, enthusiastic, easy-going, understanding, mean green organising machine! (but without the mean or green part)
Currently devoting every minute of my free time to participating in as many societies can get my hands on.
Trying to be as involved as I can be in the UCL community.
I've got a handful of volunteering and leadership experience and I'm committed to scooping up more.
I've got that objective STEM brain that shows my incredible problem solving skills.
I pride myself on several things:
- I am human
- I have never shared a secret (trustworthy)
- I don't lie
- My smile
I consider myself quite human,
Communicative, and easy-going.
To UCL I'll state my devotion.
You can clearly vote for Cleary knowing
You can talk to me, spot me with my smile,
In everything I'm enthusiastic.
I'll serve the union beyond the last mile.
I will be great, I will be fantastic.
I'd be honoured if you place your trust
In my personal organisation,
To act with prudence, for that is a must.
Now its very clear that for this station
The best option from Schafer to Langton,
And Bloomsbury to Stratford, is Adam!
If elected as a Student Trustee, I will leverage my experience as a Business Adviser at BDO London, where I provided strategic financial advice to international clients, to ensure the financial stability and transparency of the Students' Union. Drawing on my background in analyzing market trends and social policies, I will work to enhance communication between the Trustee Board and the diverse student body, ensuring all voices are heard. My goal is to create a positive, inclusive environment that aligns with the needs and aspirations of all UCL students.
I bring a strong background in financial analysis and strategic decision-making from my role as a Business Adviser at BDO London, where I supported clients with international mergers and acquisitions. My experience in research and presentation, gained through analyzing global markets, equips me with the skills to make data-driven decisions. Additionally, my volunteer work and life support assistance roles have honed my communication skills and empathy, ensuring I can represent and understand the diverse needs of UCL students effectively.
Students should vote for me because I bring a unique blend of financial expertise, strategic thinking, and a genuine commitment to student well-being. My experience as a Business Adviser at BDO London ensures I can provide sound guidance on financial matters, while my background in research and market analysis allows me to make informed, data-driven decisions. I am passionate about representing the diverse voices of UCL students and creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels heard. With your support, I will work to ensure the Students' Union thrives and serves your interests.
I intend to improve the transparency and accountability of the Students' Union by publishing the requisite financial data and establishing student supervision teams to guarantee financial and structural stability. I intend to enhance communication mechanisms that enable students' voices to be fully represented in decision-making. Furthermore, I will concentrate on optimising the financial resource allocation process, including direct collaboration with banks and insurance companies to streamline the scholarship application and review mechanism, thereby benefiting more students in need.
I possess a wealth of leadership experience, a profound comprehension of student needs, and a fervour for active communication. I have acquired exceptional organisational abilities serving as the Operation VP of the China Think Big National Committee. I have developed the ability of teamwork and problem-solving while serving as several clubs’ leader and the VP of my high school Students Union. Additionally, my internship in education has enabled me to comprehend a variety of viewpoints, which guarantees that the Union makes well-informed decisions regarding legal and financial matters.
I’m voteworthy because I am committed and experienced in prioritising your interests above all else. With a degree in Politics and Sociology, I possess a solid understanding of policy, enabling me to effectively represent students' voices. With my experience of internships in education and starting up my own company, I am skilful in communicating and negotiating for what matters in students’ daily lives. My skills and passion give me the confidence to make a positive impact in this role, driving the Union to achieve greater goals and enhance the quality of campus life for every student.
I see great potential for this role to renew trust in student leadership across UCL and confidence in the SU Board of Trustees. In a campaign of transparent and open outreach, I am interested in bringing to light the real responsibility of this student-elected position, acting as a highly engaged point of contact for all student concerns; a direct line of communication that can promise radical change. I also strive to facilitate SU responses to the rapidly changing world through progressive plans which identify and anticipate the best immediate and long-term support for our student body.
I have been an active member of the UCL student body over the last two years which has helped me gain a multilevel understanding of our community. Aside from my involvement in SU societies, services, and events, I was the student lead for the BME Awarding Gap Project. Through research and proposals, I have represented the interests of BME students at departmental meetings and effectively communicated their needs to senior staff. I consistently push for all decision-making to be based on student opinion and I am prepared to be accountable and impartial in the interests of our whole community.
As a Trustee hopeful, I am prepared to be your true and honest advocate. My leadership experiences combined with my knowledge of the demographic and demands of our study body has naturally led me to this position and I will not take this responsibility lightly. I understand how to be a strong, student representative and I will stand behind your aspirations for the SU. Let me become the direct line of communication you have always wanted with those possessing the real capacity to shape our community. If I have your trust and attention, please vote for me, you won’t be disappointed!
As a Student Trustee at UCL, I aim to enhance the variety and quality of events and activities across all societies. In order to host larger-scale activities that unite students from many backgrounds, I wish to help societies have the funds and resources they need. Additionally, I’ll advocate for programs like panels, and joint training sessions that encourage the sharing of skills among societies. I want to lower administrative hurdles by supporting streamlined procedures for event planning and funding, which will free up societies to provide students with worthwhile, rewarding experiences.
I feel confident in my abilities to successfully represent and advocate for the needs of our community because of my varied experiences and leadership responsibilities. I have developed my diplomatic and public speaking abilities as President of the MUN Club and Chair of the TIMUN Conference. I have always led with cooperation and clear communication. I have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills because of my work as the operations manager of an innovation competition. This enables me to handle obligations quickly and meticulously.
Voting for me would be appropriate since I have a history of leadership, commitment, and a strong desire to help those around me. Whether I'm running a club or working for disaster relief, my motivation is always to make a significant impact on the community. Inspecting my high school’s student union for a whole academic year has also allowed me to realize how it is that union members are not always transparent and how they can be better in their attempts to help students. I'm determined to serve as a personable, trustworthy, and capable spokesperson for everyone.
Greater and varied services; better, cleaner facilities; and funding towards projects that benefit the wider student community. These are the things which I strive to achieve if I am to be elected. Why so? Because I believe it is imperative for us fellow students at UCL to make the most of it within our years here. After all, this is a rather expensive place to be at (especially for internationals like me and you) [Still expensive for you nationals too], so why not reap all there is, and even more? And gain the most out of UCL?
That, is what I hope to achieve.
Greater transparency, fairness, impartiality and efficiency. Four things which I will bring to the student union and its board of trustees. How should all of this be done? Through recordings of meetings and publishing them, and also asking much more feedback from you! The person reading this article! Having led events and petitioned for better facilities at my old school, such as the toilets (gosh they were horrible), I hope to provide greater satisfaction towards us fellow students at UCL. Because I believe all of us want the most out of the student union, and I will achieve that.
At the end of the day, you are the one who is using facilities, you are the one studying, working or having a good time there at the student union, so how great or not so great facilities and services are, they affect you and I. And I Tao Zeyuan aim to make them better and more efficient. So vote for me, for a better time at UCL.
Thank you, Tao Zeyuan 2024
Transparency
With so much going on at UCL, students find it difficult to follow what's happening at higher SU levels. I would ensure transparent decision-making and open communication between myself, SU members, and SU executives.
Long-term Success/Enhanced Student Experience
Perhaps my most important role as a Student Trustee would be making each decision with its long-term impacts in mind. I'll strive to enact responsible policies focused on improving student life and increasing sustainability. This will ensure our reputation is upheld and we continue doing important work for all students.
Now in my fourth year at UCL, I have served on many society committees and crucially the SU Executive Committee. This involved working closely with Sab Officers and SU staff to make important decisions affecting students, like the referendum on the NUS teacher strike.
My various committee positions have developed skills relevant to Student Trustee. As a marketing officer, I learned the importance of transparency and communication with members. Being a year and faculty Rep taught me how to advocate on behalf of others. As a welfare officer, I make every decision with the vulnerable in mind.
Students should vote for me because I bring a wealth of experience and clear goals, with responsibility and integrity at the forefront of everything I do. I will be a voice for students and work closely with Student Trustees to ensure the SU's long-term success. I know from my SU roles how to advocate, be transparent, and most importantly, to collaborate with others. As a Student Trustee, I would continue my work to do all of this but with the big picture in mind, so that students in future enjoy the same benefits from the SU we have, but enhanced as a result of responsible decision-making.
I believe in the Nolan Principles—seven standards of public life: integrity, accountability, transparency, fairness, and putting the student interest above all else. By adhering to these, I’ll ensure the SU is a place of genuine representation and accountability. Having seen underrepresentation in Postgrad opportunities, especially for IOE students and marginalized groups, I aim to push for greater inclusion, accessible resources, and fairer opportunities. My goal is to ensure every student, regardless of background, has an equal chance to thrive.
In short. Opportunity, Opportunity, Opportunity
With my background as a project manager and stage manager in theatre, I’m skilled in navigating processes and finding creative solutions to challenges. As a director and teacher, working with diverse groups, resolving issues, and managing stakeholders is second nature to me. I’m used to handling complex situations and asking tough questions when necessary. These skills: leadership, communication, and problem-solving, will allow me to effectively represent students and drive positive change in the SU.
If elected as Student Trustee, I’ll be dedicated to representing all students and holding the SU accountable to the highest standards. As a student teacher, fairness is a core value in my classroom, and it will be the same in this role. Guided by the Nolan Principles—integrity, transparency, and accountability—I’ll ensure your voices are heard and respected. My focus is ensuring the SU truly serves *you*. With your vote, we can make fair representation and accountability a reality. I‘ll also be sure to promote widening access to participation in SU activities particularly across all degree levels.
I am passionate about uplifting students and helping them make the most of their time in UCL: if I am elected, I hope to carry students’ voices and interests to the Trustee Board.
I believe in transparency and accountability: through my involvement in UCL’s life and my interactions with its students, I will be aware of students’ needs and be open to their feedback in order to defend students’ interests in the SU’s decision making.
Lastly, I want to help keep the SU accessible to all regardless of means: no one should have to hold back from engaging in student life for financial reasons.
As the Welfare Officer of VegSoc and the Orienteering Club, I am committed to helping students make the most of their time in UCL. As the Campaigns Rep of the Women’s Network, I also have a solid understanding of the SU’s work and its impact in students’ life.
Over my year at UCL, I realised how little students knew about the SU and its work. If I am elected, I will help bridge the gap between students and their representatives, serve students' interests and help them feel more aware and connected to the SU’s work through my transparency, communications skills, and commitment to inclusion.
I will ensure that my voice reflects the diversity of students' interests and of their experiences of university life.
I am good at communicating and my curious nature drives me to seek out both facts and people's opinions and insights in order to get a nuanced, in-depth understanding of issues when I take decisions.
In addition, I will be able to combine my diverse work experience (both in the public and private sector, including in higher education) with my knowledge of the SU's functioning, its powers and its values, in order to make optimal decisions for students :)
If elected, I plan to bring meaningful changes that enhance the overall student experience. First and foremost, I will focus on improving communication between the student body and administration, ensuring that everyone feels heard and valued. I aim to implement regular feedback sessions and suggestion boxes to gather your thoughts and ideas actively. Additionally, I want to create more engaging events that cater to diverse interests, promoting inclusivity and a sense of belonging among all students. I also plan to advocate for better mental health resources and support systems, making sure that every student has access to the help they need. Lastly, I will work towards fostering a culture of collaboration, encouraging students to get involved in decision-making processes and initiatives that affect their lives on campus. Together, we can make our university not just a place of learning, but a vibrant community where everyone thrives.

I believe in accountability and transparency, so expect me to advocate for regular updates and evaluations. Because who doesn’t love knowing we’re on the right track?
- Engaged and Enthusiastic: In meetings, you’ll find me wide awake and ready to dive into discussions! I’m all about bringing my ideas to the table and collaborating with fellow board members. With my background in mass media and communication, I can’t wait to share insights that spark creativity—and maybe even a few giggles!
- Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: I believe that great ideas come from collaboration. Let’s put our heads together and tackle challenges with a mix of innovation and humor! I’ll foster an environment where everyone feels empowered to contribute and where fun is part of the process.
In a nutshell, I’m excited about the opportunity to join the Board of Trustees. With a focus on enhancing student life and a dash of fun, I’m ready to help us grow and make a lasting impact in our Union and the wider student community!
Why Should You Vote for Me? Here’s the Lowdown:
- Your Voice, My Mission: I’m your personal cheerleader, ready to amplify your concerns! No more whispers in the hall—your opinions will be front and center!
- Experienced Navigator: With my past roles as a class rep and PR officer, I know how to maneuver through the system. Think of me as your trusty guide—less “lost in the woods,” more “let’s get things done!”
- Award-Winning Nerd: I might not be winning any athletic awards, but I snagged the Best Student title among 2,000 peers! So, when it comes to academics and student issues, I’m on top of my game! (now it's your responsibility to drag me to sports.)
- Change-Maker Extraordinaire: Want to shake up campus life? I’m your go-to! From organizing cool events to enhancing resources, let’s make our university experience unforgettable ..and tasty food is a must!
- Fun is My Middle Name: I believe advocacy doesn’t have to be dull. I’m all about turning meetings into brainstorming sessions filled with creativity and a sprinkle of humor. Because who says we can’t make serious changes while having a good laugh?
So, if you want a candidate who’s relatable, passionate, and ready to make a difference (with a side of fun), I’m your person! Vote for me, and let’s bring some excitement to our campus!
Unlike the role of a Rep, this position requires a broader perspective on governance. It is essential that UCL students not only feel represented but also trust the processes that shape their university experience.
I will prioritise maintaining a high standard of transparency and accountability in the Students' Union in line with its values.
I hope to build a collaborative working relationship with the sabbatical officers and Union staff to promote good decision-making, and the effective use of resources to ensure that the Union’s operations are aligned with its long-term strategic vision.
I am studying my MA in Higher Education Studies (IOE) part-time and I have been working in the higher education sector since 2019. I have engaged with applicants, offer holders, undergraduate and postgraduate students, doctoral candidates and alumni in a variety of roles. I also hold a welfare role within student halls. I am an active alumna of my alma mater & an external trustee for a students’ union in Scotland.
My core values: context, clarity and competency.
My qualities: strong communicator, have great foresight, asks lots of questions, very reliable, highly proactive and well-organised.
- You can be sure that I am aligned with the Union’s mission to build a vibrant and empowered student community with real influence in UCL.
