I am an energetic and pragmatic person, who is able to deal with responsibility while also having a good time. As a creative person, I look forward to being able to plan a range of socials which cater to everyone’s unique interests and passions.
I’ve been actively engaged in event organising and management in the past. I created the LGBTQ+ Society at my school, which offered academic talks and support networks for its members.
Also, as I’m the Drag Soc Social Secretary this year, I believe that holding both roles will allow more collaboration between various queer-oriented societies on campus.
If 10% of the world is LGBTQ+, there are at least 5,000 queer UCL students, all from different backgrounds and with different interests. I plan to organise a wide variety of events to cater to all sorts of different interests and identities and promote a strong, visible community spirit.
My ideas include:
- Workshop collabs with other societies, e.g. Drag, baking, musical theatre.
- TED Talk events where students can discuss their favourite topics.
- A Pride Ball!!! in the Summer
- Queer pub crawls and outings
- Trips to queer events around london e.g. art exhibitions, bookstores, cafés
And much much more.
I hope to bring energy and versatility to the role, providing useful and memorable experiences to LGBTQ+ people throughout this university. I hope I can utilise the role to ensure queer UCL students remember their time here, not just because they did a degree there, and spent 80+ hours a week cramming organic chemistry, case law or the rise and fall of Napoleon. Rather also because they found a community that supports and engages them, no matter their background, and provides long lasting friends and memories.
(also Paddy the Panda thinks you should vote for me, and his opinion is golden)
As someone who moved countries for uni, I understand that having a safe, accepting community to welcome you is a complete game changer.
I have experience organising club activities and one-off events for my highschool, which means I know how to plan and execute events effectively.
I have a ton of ideas about how to expand the role of the LGBTQ+ Network and widen the kinds of events done, and I would love to share these with you to hear your thoughts.
I am hard-working, organized and determined, which means I can follow through on tasks and get you what you need.
I want to set up an easily accessible line of communication between committee and network members, to allow you to share your ideas and opinions, and allow us to help you better, and cater to every student.
I want to diversify the events the Network organizes. In addition to community building events, I would love to have more educational sessions and workshops such as expert talks and sensitivity training sessions.
I want to manage and schedule events effectively and avoid roadblocks to give you a relaxing and rewarding experience with the network.
- I will listen to what you have to say in order to make this a good experience for you, and try to cater to every student in the network.
- I understand the importance of creating a safe space for people to be themselves, and will do my best to protect that.
- I see the potential this network has to expand it's role in the UCL student experience and want to include more events to help it do that.
As an omni poly transmasc, I'm nestled deep in the fabric of queer culture. I'm easy-going and cheery, but empathetic due to my own experience of ostracism for my queerness.
I have a lot of experience: I ran my school's LGBTQ society, Eco Committee and Zoology club, learning organisational skills, planning events and fostering an engaging community for queer kids. As the 2021 UCL Trans Secretary and member of committees like the Sims Society, I know how to work within the Student Union framework.
I plan to run a wide range of frequent events such as collabs with societies like DragSoc, pub nights, and also many alcohol-free events! I will also listen to feedback - I'll endeavour to add events people want and fix problems that come up :)
I hope to work closely with Danilo Paganelli, our LGBQ+ officer, to collaborate with other societies such as Cats Society for cat café events. I hope to continue his many successful events such as speed-friending, film nights, picnics, and board games!
I'm committed to both expanding our events to new horizons and maintaining everything we already love about the network.
As a member of marginalised groups within the community, I want to make events that actively include other minority voices.
My experience is current and relevant to the more bureaucratic parts of the role.
I care a lot about this role and my community, and I will pour my whole heart into making the network a stable joy in your lives that evolves with new voices and ideas.
