Rie Raut (They, She)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I am a Dalit-Transgender-Hijra Activist from India, I work at the intersection of caste and gender and I've focused on cultural Trans community upliftment. I have worked with trans communities, elders and activists in India for trans rights focusing on representation, affirmative action, relief work and healthcare. I have worked with various grassroots organisations, corporations and schools and colleges to spread awareness and to create safe spaces and opportunities. I bring my intersectional approach and perspective with my leadership skills to this role to make UCL a more inclusive space.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to make UCL a trans-affirming uni, where Trans people from all backgrounds are encouraged to study. I will be strongly advocating for UCL to join Stonewall's Diversity Champions Programme and support it's diverse students. I'll ensure there are sensitisation sessions & resources available at all events UCL hosts and it's classrooms and libraries to tackle the rampant Transphobia. I'll be pushing for scholarships for global Trans students to study at UCL at UG, PG and PhD levels and for short courses. I will also be advocating for Trans representation in Admin and teaching staff at UCL.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

You should vote for me as I will fiercely tackle issues affecting Trans students and aim to create lasting policy level and social change at UCL. I will ensure that students issues are well represented. I will be creating safe spaces meant for trans and gender non-conforming peers. If you vote for me, I will be able to make UCL a safer space, where Queer and Trans people from all backgrounds are represented and their issues are addressed.

Anji Suri (they/them)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I know a lot about the trans experience in London - I can communicate the needs of the community effectively. I've been speaking about my identity + community since I was 16, presenting to the entire school. I was my school's Diversity + Inclusion prefect and LGBTQ+ Society president, leading a club of over 50 students. I held discussions often, helping me become more empathetic and open minded. I've held multiple pride events, such as Middlesex Pride, which had over 600 signups. I'm an ambassador at Just Like Us, an organisation that sends LGBTQ+ people to schools to talk about their stories.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

The aim is to achieve complete integration. Realistically, that won't happen in the space of a year, but I think we can get close. I want every single trans student, out or not, to know that they have a support system of people with lived experience. It's important to me that everyone knows how to be inclusive, and I'd like to be part of that process. Holding workshops, regular discussions & safe spaces for all people to ask questions with respect and without judgement are just a few of the things I'd like to help implement.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

As someone who knows what it's like to be trans in a world of cis people (18 years of lived experience!), I'm determined to have our experiences represented. We deserve to see people like us shown in our university communities and I'm positive I can make that happen. There's a lot that can be improved, and I won't shy away from standing up for what's important to our community. I want everyone to feel heard, and I think that can be achieved with a bit of cooperation! I've been working my whole life to help people feel seen, and I know I can do that for UCL's trans community too.

Leandro Walker Titley (he/him)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I can bring social and medical transition advice to students, as I have done extensive personal and practical research for my own transition and others and have a wealth of resources that I can provide, within London specifically. Additionally, I bring an intersectional perspective to being trans, as being a person of colour I understand the difficulties of being accepted by POC communities and understanding gender non conformity from a non white perspective.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I want trans students to feel safe and comfortable to assert their identities and have them respected and accepted. I want to aim to also get cis students to be more mindful in the language and attitudes towards trans people, especially in this current very anti-trans political climate. I also want trans students to feel less alone, because Uni can be difficult at the best of times and hope that I can help find community and solidarity.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I think students should vote for me because I will listen to what other trans people need and actively try to create change within UCL. Something that I think would be a good idea would be the normalisation of pronoun pins for everyone so that we don't feel singled out when wearing them. Also, I would suggest groups to help with the legal and administrative side of social and medical transition, as it is such a hard and complicated journey especially alongside academic responsibility.
