Hey I’m Jack! I’m the Men’s Captain of UCL Boat Club.
This is what I will bring to this role:
- As Men’s Captain of UCL Boat Club, I coordinate our Novice Programme, taking athletes within a squad of 60+, from beginners to competing at a national level.
- I have extensive experience in leadership positions, including pioneering a sports programme and league events of over 400 members, at my sixth form college, which previously had no sports teams.
- I have been involved in sports for most of my life, from swimming to cricket and rugby at school, and most recently rowing at UCL.
- Opportunity: Sport should be open to EVERYONE. I want to encourage all our students to get involved in a new sport – I hope to work with our Sports Officer to support clubs in expanding their development programmes.
- Promotion: Many of our large sports events don’t get the coverage they deserve, while many of our smaller clubs are neglected. I plan to advocate for greater promotion of our Varsity events, and increase exposure for our smaller clubs.
- Community: I would like to see a greater breadth of clubs involved in our UCL Leagues programme, to help foster our TeamUCL community.
- In short, sport has made my university experience. I want to be a part of the team who will improve the experiences of those involved in sports at UCL.
- My ambitions for TeamUCL and experiences within sport, situate me well for this role. I am the most enthusiastic candidate, and I am steadfast in my desire to make an impact, improving TeamUCL and elevating the experiences of all those involved in Sport. I am determined to give others the opportunity to access every type of sport and hopefully thrive within their community as I have done.
As an active member of the Football Society during my first and second years, where I played on the university's 2nd team, I bring valuable experience in university sports at UCL. My commitment and understanding of student-athlete needs will help foster an enriching sports experience for all. My leadership skills gained as a team captain will contribute to promoting an inclusive and collaborative sports environment. I plan to implement practical initiatives, such as organizing open forums to address athlete concerns and improving communication channels between athletes and the student union.
My primary goal is to enhance the sports experience at UCL. Building on my experience and skills, I aim to promote inclusivity by organizing diverse sporting events and activities. I want to establish effective communication channels between societies and the Student Union to address their concerns and needs. Furthermore, my leadership will drive the development of initiatives that foster team spirit and encourage active participation. By collaborating with fellow representatives and sports clubs, I intend to create a stronger sense of community within the university's sports culture.
Students should vote for me because I bring experience, dedication, and a commitment to enhancing the sports experience at UCL. As an active member of the Football Society in my first and second years, I understand the dynamics of university sports. My leadership skills enable effective communication and teamwork. I am committed to promoting inclusivity, diversifying sporting events, and addressing athlete concerns. By collaborating with fellow representatives and sports clubs, I aim to strengthen the sense of community within our sports culture.
I was the Treasurer of the Fencing Club for 2022-2023 and was re-elected for a second year. In the last year I, alongside our President, have dealt with issues and introduced changes all of which resulted in the betterment of the club. Our finances are improved, our novice class is expanded and our equipment store if full. However, more important than all of this is that I entered the club as a novice so I understand what it feels like to enter a sports club as an outsider, which allows me to understand the challenges faced by the students who come to UCL and want to try a new sport.
As the Treasurer of the Fencing Club my main goal has always been to make our sport more accessible, in particular because it has traditionally been exclusionary. Having seen success in this endeavour in the Fencing Club, I would make it my aim to ensure the same level of accessibility across all of UCL’s sports clubs, ensuring that adequate resources are provided to beginners to lower the barrier of entry. For example, encouraging clubs to have a policy of lending equipment to lower the barrier of entry for sports with higher associated costs, and properly signposting the participation fund.
I would make a good Sports Rep because I’m not an athlete, I haven’t been doing sports since I was a child and I don’t compete in BUCS. Rather, I Fence because I’m never happier than when I have a sword in my hand. There are multiple sports reps for a reason, some of them are there to represent the elite athletes and the BUCS teams, but equally some of them are there to represent people who do sport just because of the joy they find in it. It is because I found a sport I was passionate about in university that I understand the benefits of university sports clubs, and why you should vote for me
Hi all! I’m Elisia, current President of the Dodgeball Club and proud UCL Panther! As a student who began their competitive sport journey at UCL, my goal is to increase inclusion and access to competitive university sport for complete beginners.
My sports experience at UCL includes:
-
Being a President, Captain, and team member of the Dodgeball Club since my first year of study.
-
Refereeing at Project Active UV Dodgeball and Accommodation tournaments.
-
Coaching the Dodgeball Club’s enthusiastic, new members in this year’s Fresher’s tournament.
I believe that sport plays such a big part in both physical and mental health at university (it definitely helped me balance the stresses of medical school!) and should be accessible for all UCL students. If elected into this role, I plan to:
-
Expand the number of non-BUCS beginner-friendly activities and tournaments within sports clubs and the wider TeamUCL community.
-
Help increase the number of student coaches, by working with TeamUCL to facilitate access to coaching courses.
-
Encourage collaboration between the social and competitive members of sports clubs.
Sport has been the highlight of my experience at UCL and I believe it can be [that] for so many more students, if we lessen the pre-requisites that unconsciously exist in sports.
My passion for better inclusion in competitive sport is driven by my own experiences and I want to amplify and support the voices of students who wish for their experiences, as a beginner within the sporting community, to be heard too.
