Candidates

Antra Chouksey (She/Her)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Being a Faculty Rep is vital for students and faculty alike, requiring continuous communication and dedication to student development. You might recognize me from the WhatsApp Community I initiated in March, facilitating pre-arrival student communication and community support. My professional background primarily centers on improving students' educational experiences, with over three years of experience in student liaison and addressing institution-wide issues in the US and India. I believe I am the ideal candidate to be your voice.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

My primary aim is to enrich your IOE experience by building stronger connections among students, the department, and staff. I am committed to making college more accessible through regular online and in-person meet-ups and workshops to enhance your development. I firmly believe in the value of time, and I'll invest mine in advocating for your interests. Teamwork is key to resolving matters in student and faculty interests. With your support, we can truly make a difference and leave a lasting legacy for future representatives. Let's make our time at IOE unforgettable and enjoyable together.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I firmly believe in the educational journey's significance and UCL's role in empowering us to voice our needs. I'm Antra Chouksey, a dedicated advocate with a history of support. Count on my unwavering accessibility and commitment to your comprehensive support. Your comfort and heard voices are my priorities. In our diverse academic community, I aspire to be your representative, fostering an inclusive environment. Your vote empowers me to champion your faculty interests. Thanks for considering me.

Hoi Yin Kwok
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
  • One-year experience working in the Sports Department of the School of Asian and African Studies at SISU
  • Played volleyball and softball as an undergrad, which improved my sense of teamwork
  • Two years of teaching in schools brought me essential skillsets, including listening to others, time management, resolving conflicts, communication, and persuasion
  • Knowing four languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and Korean), having travelled to 15 cities and countries with an open and inclusive mind to embrace cultures
  • Proactive in interacting with people and enthusiastic about challenges
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
  • PGT students can balance their academic studies and daily life, with full acknowledgement of educational information and resources from IOE
  • To make PGT students and staff work together in harmony and an efficient way, with understanding each other’s perspective
  • To encourage PGT students to speak out their thoughts in a comfortable way, in which they will not worry about being judged or ignored
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I know that lots of PGT students are busy in dealing with their studies and job hunting in the UK or abroad, and some of them may feel uninvolved because of different backgrounds, language capitals, or that the time of 1 year could be too short to engage in the cohort along with so many tasks and problems to settle. Additionally, I am good at perceiving someone’s emotions and understanding their concern, always ready to listen to them and help them. Finally, I hope that PGT students will feel less stressful if I concisely transit key information points to them.

Jacqui Lee
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Hi I’m Jacqui! I’m originally from Hong Kong, I moved to London to study at UCL for my undergraduate degree in Architecture (2018-2021). I am now studying an MA in Art Education at the IOE.

I love being back at UCL, the first place I truly felt at home, having opportunities again to represent our diverse student voice.

During my second year, I had the humbling experience of being president of a cultural society, called the Association of British and Chinese University Students.

Booking rooms for our social events here at IOE actually piqued my interest to study and teach here in the future!

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

My familiarity liaising with the Student’s Union, IOE & the Bartlett has helped me devise 3 realistic targets as Faculty Rep for 23/24:

1. Creating a WhatsApp Group/Teams space of PGT course reps to facilitate regular meetings & build a strong communication chain between students → course reps → faculty members

2. Fostering a sense of wider community within all postgrads using this group, allowing us reps to organise more PGT socials & inform you who is a point of contact for another course

3. Introducing microwaves around IOE so we can heat food - if Student Centre has them, why can’t we? :)

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am a ‘do-er’, if I say I’ll do something, I will try my hardest to get it done!

As an international student, I'm keen to integrate students who can’t speak English well into the IOE.

I love meeting people of all ages, races & socioeconomic backgrounds, hearing everyone's opinions on how we can come together to make change happen.

I'm passionate about communicating the importance of mental health support at UCL & improving our extenuating circumstances policy.

I've been nominated as course rep & now hope to make changes for the wider faculty!

Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you soon :)

Ruohan Huang
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

During my undergraduate years, I served as the head of the largest volunteer teaching group and the head of the academic department of student Union, so I have rich experience in communicating with teachers and classmates, which has trained my interpersonal skills and made me take every job seriously with a sense of responsibility. I want to make these experience continue to play a role in creating a good communication atmosphere between teachers and students at IOE, improving the efficiency of information transmission, and optimizing study quality of students.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I think the most important thing for student representatives is to actively do a good job of bridging the communication gap and soliciting feedback from students on course work, use of resources and other aspects. Then they need to convey feedback to the faculty and relevant teachers, to assist in solving problems and answering queries. If teachers have notices to convey, student representatives can assist in communicating them to the students. If necessary, they can also participate in organising some teacher-student bonding activities.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

My own personality is very kind and friendly, and good at communicating with teachers and students. In addition, I have a positive working attitude, full of enthusiasm for the work of student representatives, and very hope to do a good job in this job. At the same time, my rich experience as a student representative during my undergraduate years has sharpened my interpersonal skills, communication and coordination skills, which makes me more capable of working as a student representative.

Masa Nooh (She/her)

These experiences have challenged my leadership skills and taught me how to communicate effectively, as well as learning how to problem solve in stressful situations.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
  • I plan to support and represent the views of Education PGT students promote a collaborative culture within IOE.

  • I will continue the development of this amazing department by acting as a key communication link between the students and the university.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I love the career of speaking out for others. I think students also have the right to speak up.

Before I graduated this year, I produced a micro documentary about my undergraduate school and posted it on Bilibili

After the school leader had saw my work, many of the issues mentioned in my documentary have been resolved.

Since my third year of university, I have been interning in media to solve practical problems for different communities. One of the project teams I work for was called "Doing practical things for the people". We solved problems for residents during community visits.
