Harriet R Israel
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Hello I’m Harriet – you'll have seen me as part of the Welcome Team! ?

I have spent the last 3 years as an active representative for our student community. Last year, I was voted IOE Academic Rep of the Year!

I have a great track record of securing positive changes for students – I am now ready to do the same for the IOE.

For me, no problem is too trivial or complex. Described as “tough” and “tenacious”, I happily take initiative in challenging situations.

I am a confident speaker and a friendly member of the student community, working to build a supportive, welcoming environment.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

My priority this year is to secure small changes with a wide impact. Here are my proposed targets as Faculty Rep for 22/23:

? Fostering a sense of belonging for students within the Students Union.

? Co-creating a community of staff and students, abolishing an “us” and “them” mentality.

❣️ Guaranteeing a fair and clear extenuating circumstances policy.

✅ Addressing the late release of assessment feedback.

? Ensuring that IOE offers free and accessible facilities for all students to heat food and get hot water – particularly crucial during the cost-of-living crisis.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am highly dedicated to my student rep work, and student voices will remain my utmost priority this year.

I am familiar with the workings and quirks of IOE, and I am keen to gain more new experiences and skills.

I am very friendly and approachable, and will be regularly reaching out to include students in the conversation.

I am excited to be able to work in partnership with students and staff to improve working and learning conditions at IOE and I would sincerely appreciate your support!

Let’s continue the conversation: find me on Twitter at @hazlett92  ?

Selina Yi
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

My name is Selina and I am studying Digital Media at IOE. I believe I will bring to this role because of my past experience being a student representative at the University of Auckland. Due to the COVID-19, there are thousands of international students who stuck in offshore and unhappy with the quality of online learning. I collected feedback from the students regarding course delivery and university services and channelled the feedback to the university. I will bring to this role as much inclusivity as possible and make sure every concerns are resolved.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Being an international student myself, I understand how stressful it can be for postgraduate students to balance the study and personal life. I will make sure that all academic support is provided to students so you could have spare time to travel Europe and just enjoy your life:) I will be approachable and address all the concerns that the student have raised. I believe every one of IOE student should have a say in the decisions made in faculty.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Have your ever felt shy and hesitate to speak up your opinions?

Have you ever have complaints for you course delivery or the amount of workload but don't know where to go?

I will be here to help you out!

I will ensure that ALL of your feedback and opinions are reflected to IOE and acted upon as soon as possible. Thank you for you time:)

Aaron J C Marketis
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

In my prior university I started an education action campaign which, amongst many things, aimed to improved students rights in education, accessibility and critically examine universities to ensure that the education being provided was being assessed in a manner outside of audit culture and instead was focused on pedagogical quality and sufficient interdisciplinary methods in each subject.

I had a brief role as a science communicator during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and dispelled common myths and critical thinking errors which were in my mind, the result of poor schooling.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I'd like to be responsive to whatever the needs of students would be. Call it a lazy Friere cop-out, but bottom-up responses are preferable to a vanguard. Not enough study spaces? I hear you on that. That's not an issue for you and you'd rather address accessibility? Then let's redirect the focus. My personal vision is to expand peoples epistemic horizons, reading groups, external speakers etc. If time management or other practical issues are a concern then I'd want to respond to that. The same goes for mental health. There's a lot of pressure to do well, you don't need to go through it alone.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I live and breathe education. I am on the MA Philosophy of Education course having graduated from Bsc and Msc Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. I made the change to pay out of pocket due to my concerns with the education system (something I've no doubt we all share in at least some regard). My previous course felt too epistemically isolated, education shouldn't feel that way. It's only through action that any of us can influence education to be what we want to see. I hope that those of you who are voting may see a shared vision in improving education and as such, that's my elevator pitch.

Divya Karwa
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

One of the main reasons that I want to contest this election is my recent experience as a student and a newer experience as a teacher as well. I also have experience of working at an administrative position and I am quite well versed with the process of decision making. Some of the qualities which I would like highlight in myself are, I am quite good at making coordination within groups. I also like to make things fast, I like a decision to be made within the given timeframe or even less. I have be tagged to be happy go lucky and friendly and surprising can remember all your names as well :)

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As everyone would say I would like to work on all my responsibilities and try to also go beyond it, if allowed. I would be a lending ear for all your problems at the faculty. I would like to help you to have a memorable year at IOE. I want to create a balance of communication.I want to create an environment which would feed into being a safe space for the students. I want to build a strong feedback to communication chain between the students and the faculty as well. If I am selected on this position I would like to make sure that I make all the positive changes that my potential would allow.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

1. I promise to be fair and equal to all.

2. I can promise to be a better listener than your bae;)

3. I will be always available for you, unless I let you know or I sleep in?

4. I promise to solve your query asap and provide a suitable solution to you.

5. don’t take point 3 too seriously, I don’t sleep in too much :)

6. I would be the in the course for one year, I believe you can trust me for a year and let me prove it to you.

7. I can write more and more, but now I would just like you to go ahead and vote for me ;)
